Ice hockey isn’t on the list?

Distance running for the HS set is tough. Sprints are not so tough.

It is also a lot of standing around. Water polo is a contact sport while swimming.

I played both. Football is way harder. No one is running full speed and hitting you in water polo.

No, they're slashing you with their toenails under the water.

Swimming just seems hard because you're using smaller muscle groups to do a majority of the work.

I have both wrestled and played rugby.

Rugby beats you up more but in terms the "tougher sport" nothing matches wrestling.

Um, where is hockey? You picked random sports.

Basketball has the highest incidence of injury, though they tend to be minor. You could think of that like toughness. That and being one of the best cardio workouts you could imagine, due to the burstiness of the sprinting combined with jumping and just all-round agility.

It's a toss-up between soccer and football. Football looks tough, but they do have equipment.

The lines switch in and out all the time so plenty of breaks. Same with Football - a professional Football game has less that 15 minutes of actual play/action the WHOLE GAME - lots of standing around, sitting on the bench, etc. Rugby is different since it's more continuous and it's the same players, no offensive team, defensive team, special teams, etc.

Has anyone tried playing a few minutes of squash? Definitely the toughest and most physically demanding sport I’ve ever tried.
