Island size

No perimeter cabinets? Or only on one side? Otherwise dimensions don’t work.

My kitchen is a little smaller in one dimension, similar in the other, and I can’t imagine fitting this in. But we have cabinets on the walls.

Op - yes I believe there is at a minimum 48” on each side for traffic.

How can that be? If you have 4 ft on either side of your 4 ft island that’s wider than your kitchen

You ruined it with the cooktop

Don’t really care for your rigid unimaginative design rules. What’s terrible are kitchens that look beautiful but are not functional. Didn’t want a sink in the island so drying dishes and soap holders can constantly be on display.

I went back and forth on adding a sink and decided to do it. Otherwise, I would be facing a wall with my back to my wonderful view and talking to my kids while they eat. I am constantly cutting up fruit, salad, prepping while i talk to them while they are eating. I hear you on the dishes in sink and water splatter, but I am glad I did it. Jsut another example of rigid rules sometimes not working.

I think that's too big, but it's unclear what you're looking for feedback on and what you're going for. An island of that size is not practical for cooking as it's a lot to walk around. But again, unclear what your priorities are. I personally wouldn't go bigger than 8'x3.5'

I am with you. I find huge islands with nothing on them weird - it's like an oversize buffet table/sideboard that serves no other purpose. My island is 4x9 and that's where I do all my prep - butcher meat, clean and cut vegetables, roll out dough etc. You can't do that without a water source. And it's just so convenient to clean it by sweeping all the debris and prep mess from a huge surface into the sink.

Do you think this is a good size island for the space? Nothing on island. One large quartz slab.

No one can answer this without a floor plan.
