Kitchen is 23’ by 11.5’ - island is going to be 9.9’ by 4’.
Do you think this is a good size island for the space? Nothing on island. One large quartz slab. |
|
If you want maximum workspace and ample seating it works.
8’ by 4’ will be better proportion and flow. |
| Will there be any cabinets underneath for storage? You might want to think about what you are storing under there and if you want cabinets/drawers that open on both sides or just one side. |
| Are you working with a kitchen designer? Seems like an appropriate question for them. |
| Can you add overhang on one of the long sides for seating? |
| Op - yes one side has 3 cabinets with drawers. And there is an overhang and island seating for 6. |
| You need at least 36 inches on each side for traffic and for doors to open. Some people prefer 39-42 inches. |
Make a mock island out of cardboard or put a couch in the place where it goes, to give you an idea of size restrictions. |
Op - yes I believe there is at a minimum 48” on each side for traffic. |
| I saw this post from Recent Topics and for a second imagined it was a discussion on the optimal size of one's private island (golf links? how large of a bunker? what about a zoo?) . |
|
Existing construction ?
Size of existing island ? Anyone done load calcs to understand if the floor system can handle that size island ? |
Don't forget this guy:
|
| Ours is 10x4.5 ft and I really like it. Glad I extended the width from 4ft. But I have an induction cooktop in the middle. |
| It sounds too large for the room dimensions but maybe one side is open to another room and it's actually bigger then it sounds. |
You ruined it with the cooktop |
