Visiting family in Georgia

When I was a kid we had a regular circuit of Colorado and a river in Florida (family lived at both locations).

Hilton Head - at the very end of our very long drive home right now!

I love it there, how lush and beautiful and peaceful it is. Don’t love the colonial/racist undertones but this is America.

The kids love the biking and it really is just so family friendly. My DH and I wfh and fantasize about buying a place there, going when we can and Airbnb-ing it the rest of the time.

Who knows.

+1 I think this is what happens if you start going when they're young and then fall into a routine. My DCs are high school age now and we're still on this schedule. They get to act like kids again. It's very different from when we go other places that are more Instagram worthy - there's no thought about posting at all. Just having fun.

We have been returning skiing to Vermont with the kids. East drive, small ski resort, take apartment with hot tub and heated outdoor pool. It’s a week heaven mixed with some slushy / icy snow. But the ease of the trip and how familiar we became with it cannot be beat.

you might need to do an AMA bc I have so many questions

what do you and spouse do that you have so much vacation time (and disposable income!)?

are your kids post-high school? how does this much travel pair up with school and extracurricular/sports schedules?

do you own property in any of these places, or rent?

where is your primary home (in DC or elsewhere)?

do you visit each of these places same time every year? (e.g., Nantucket is always fourth of july week, CO is always over spring break, etc)

do you travel anywhere else during the year that changes up year to year?

please answer any/all that you desire- thank you from a curious and envious poster!

NP. It used to be populated by African Americans until developers came in.
I agree with the PP.

Places where we have homes.
Geneva - we like the Christmas carnivals
San Diego - the beach
Banff - Skiing and hiking

Siesta key, FL - we just go to the beach

A lake in New Hampshire - I had family in the area, and my parents inherited a small (2 BR) house. My husband and kids claim to hate it, but I love NH and it’s a cheap vacation so we go.

Would you share your rental?

We have a beach house so that’s our most frequent destination. Our other repeat is NYC. We go every other ear during the Christmas holidays and sometimes a second or third time during the year.

Camping at Deep Creek State Park for a weekend every summer

Rental at Sea Island, GA (This tradition has been on and off in my family since my grandparents were young).

Weekend in NYC, usually in early Spring
