Where did your TO, 3.8 unweighted & 4.6 weighted GPA kid get accepted?

What about going for UMD, UVA, VaTech, UGA, Wisconsin, Indiana, Pitt, Penn State, etc?

A 3.8 is not a guarantee for UGA- not even for in-state

Nothing is a guarantee. Nothing. No one on this forum suggests otherwise.

She's taking the highest level classes at her HS and is in a bunch of ECs including a varsity sport since her freshman yr. Looking to maybe major in business/finance. Would love to hear where your seniors with a similar profile got accepted to and where they decided to commit. Thanks!

UVA
Boston College
Michigan
USC
University of Miami
Wake Forest
NESCACs
Emory

I'd have her work on the testing.

lol, no.

A lot of these schools suggested are no longer test option for kids applying this fall. Like Miami. OP said her kid wants TO.

In-state DD applied to UMD with a 3.9/4.7 TO with strong performing arts ECs. Rejected. Her counselor said UMD really likes test scores despite being TO. At her W school, the GPA cut off was around 4.8 this year. She was accepted at GWU with good merit ($29K) and W&M.

For Indiana, SC, uva, Pitt, VT, etc, applying for business is a tougher admit than another major. The first two in particular are much easier admits if you are not business.

Incorrect for UVA - you don't apply for a major (except nursing and kinesiology) and you apply to business school after your first year.

What size school?
What’s your max budget?

My similar kid but in VA is considering:

JMU
UMW
U Tampa
College of Charleston
Pitt
Penn state
U Delaware
CNU
Loyola MD
Xavier
Dayton
U South Carolina
UTK
College of Charleston

OP. Yes, we're at MCPS and she wants a large university with a good mix of great academics, fun/vibrant college town, and big sports in the East Coast or Midwest. Budget no more than $60K a year but of course the more merit the better.

Forget test optional. Get her in a good SAT/ACT prep.

My kid with similar stats and 32 ACT applied EA and was accepted to U of SC, UTK, Miami of Ohio, College of Charleston, Clemson, Elon, and Auburn.

Deferred from UGA and Tulane, rejected UVA (not in state)
