| I have a HS junior with a 3.84 unweighted and 4.58 weighted GPA who will likely go test optional unless it's required. She's taking the highest level classes at her HS and is in a bunch of ECs including a varsity sport since her freshman yr. Looking to maybe major in business/finance. Would love to hear where your seniors with a similar profile got accepted to and where they decided to commit. Thanks! |

What state? Md I’m guessing from the weighted gpa.
What size school? What’s your max budget? My similar kid but in VA is considering: JMU UMW U Tampa College of Charleston Pitt Penn state U Delaware CNU Loyola MD Xavier Dayton U South Carolina UTK College of Charleston |
OP. Yes, we're at MCPS and she wants a large university with a good mix of great academics, fun/vibrant college town, and big sports in the East Coast or Midwest. Budget no more than $60K a year but of course the more merit the better. |
UVA Boston College Michigan USC University of Miami Wake Forest NESCACs Emory I'd have her work on the testing. |
| All of those colleges seem out of reach h with that level of unweighted gpa. |
| UVA , umich and uc like high weighted gpa. Mich might care more about test scores. Other ones should be fine |
| She needs strong testing for t50 schools if coming from MCPS. If she can get SAT in 1500s then aim for T50-T30 and show strong, specific interest. With good testing a BC, BU, Tufts may be possible. Without testing try for T30 SLAC - Franklin and Marshall, Holy Cross, Fairfield, Conn College, Trinity or schools like JMU, PSU, UVM |
| Mine got into Ohio State with merit with slightly lower stats and test optional. Also accepted at South Carolina, Indiana, NC State and Syracuse. |
Was this as a business major or other? Also, pretty sure Syracuse is going to be no merit and more like $85k/year, not $60k or below. |
Last year (higher unweighted maybe and IB Diploma) Wash U UCLA plus UCSD and UCSB Wesleyan Wisconsin Northeastern Richmond Indiana (safety) Ohio State (safety) Picked UCLA |

I see kids with this profile going to
University of Miami and Tulane (especially if ED) and a likely admit would be SMU, Indiana. Agree about Wisconsin as well. However with your budget, you should focus on your instate options. Best bang for the buck! |
Other - public policy/poli sci. |
| DC submitted scores for test required schools and did not for test optional schools. Ended up getting into a top 50 school that was test required even though the score was not the strongest part of the application. Some schools require the SAT but it does not need to be really high if the ECs are very strong and the curriculum is very challenging. Just food for thought. I think this board gives the impression that everything has to be perfect. It does not. |

the best chances of being accepted are going ED at Tulane, UMiami, BC but also all expensive and roll of the dice on financial aid. (I think BC said it had over 75% submitting test scores this year - so that is definitely trending up but I don't know its effect on admission chances)
What about going for UMD, UVA, VaTech, UGA, Wisconsin, Indiana, Pitt, Penn State, etc? |
What's your budget? Geography preference? Home state? |
