Favorite car trip snacks??

Haven’t had combos in YEARS. Also, do they still sell Bugles???

Combos are never as good as you think they're going to be. And, they got worse. Pizza was my favorite but don't bother.
Yes bugles are in stores. None of these snacks taste as good as when we were young except for doritos.

No one ever said “Oh good! You packed the carrot sticks.”

I mean, yes, they and the bell peppers, apples, etc. are an important part of UMC virtue-signaling on long drives. “It’s OK to stop at McDonalds this one time. We’re not REALLY people who eat there.”

But I think OP was asking about the treat items, the stuff that you don’t normally buy but go with road trips like popcorn and movie theaters. For me, it’s a can of Pringles. For kids, Doritos.

(Now cue all the people saying “But MY kids really do like carrot sticks!”)

If I eat nothing but convenience store snax, I feel icky and have to stop snacking entirely, and that's no good. But if I throw a little something marginally healthful down there too, I can enjoy my highly processed treats just fine.

The trick is finding healthful stuff that isn't a sticky mess.

Are Bugles made from the same base as Cap'n Crunch?

God forbid you have to refrain from eating every hour or two.

I like chocolate covered pretzels or the chocolate pretzel bark. Combination of salty/sweet. Kids always stock up on gum for road trips. Clementines are also good because you can peel them pretty easily, just remember to bring a plastic bag for peels.

When the kids were little, they got to go to the local CVS with me and each pick out one treat "for the road" (or plane flight). You could also of course just let them do that at a gas station when you're refueling. The key is not to make that into a habit for every time you stop at a gas station.

Trader Joe's has a peanut butter pretzel snack that are similar to but better than Combos. We always pack them for car trips (and kid lunch boxes--they're filling and not quite as junky as chips).

Almond Mom has found the chat.

Almond Mom evidently didn't have a dad who refused to buy plane tickets when driving was just as easy as long as you followed the rules for Making Good Time (TM Dads everywhere)

This is us too. But no sandwiches. We usually stop for meals. My kids like fizzy water so we bring that. I will usually get a bag of jolly ranchers too or some blow pop suckers. They keep kids quiet for a while.

Canned smoked oysters.
Anchovies.

Take a loaf of bread and make peanut butter sandwiches. Peanut butter only. Place each sandwich back in the bag, reassembling the loaf. Can last for days w/out refrigeration.

I need original Skittles, especially if I have driving while everyone else is sleeping. I don't know why but it keeps me focused.

YES! I like the kind in the blue bag, too. 100% my favorite road trip food!

The thing is, it's really easy to grab whatever junk food you are craving at a gas station or McDonalds along the way. What you don't want is for the entire family to be constipated because they haven't had a vegetable in 3 days.
