Hawaii vs Yosemite

We took our then 10 & 15 yo kids to Yosemite last summer, and they LOVED it. Only complaint was from 15 yo that we didn’t have time to do longer hikes. We camped right by the Merced, and they swam in that & Tenaya Lake, drove up to Glacier Point, hiked to some waterfalls, ran around on Pothole Dome, saw Mariposa Grove, etc. And we saw 3 bears. Great trip!

I’m pretty sure if you have lodging booked within the park, you don’t need a sea parade reservation. That’s true for camping reservations, anyway.

No healthy kid would be bored at Yosemite. The beauty is stunning. Great hiking. Ranger talks. Waterfalls. Even art classes en plein air if you plan ahead. Enjoy your time together.

Op here, sorry it’s more like 6 nights now that we would have for Hawaii. So it’s either Yosemite or Maui 3 nights big island 3 nights.

OP, what about Monterrey/Carmel/Big Sur area? My kids love it there. Prefer that to Yosemite.

What's your family's physical capability on hiking and swimming? If you're a strong swimming family, Big Island 100%.

If you do Yosemite, make sure to do lodging inside the park. It makes it so much better. Even the stuff right outside the park is too far. The traffic in the summer can be awful, and it can take forever to get from the park entrance to the good stuff in the park.

Agree with this. I’ve been to Hawaii over 20 times in my life. Big Island is by far the best, and with only 6 days I would stay there the whole time.

I think the more you can incorporate alpine lakes for kids to swim in on your hikes, the better. My kids love any hike where they jump in a lake, no matter how cold.

4 days is great for rush creek lodge! We were there last summer and loved it!! See if you can do some rafting nearby, we did two days on the American river and then went to Yosemite and it was a fabulous trip.
