What’s your bedtime routine for 9 year old?

Anonymous
My 9 year old starts getting ready at 7:30. She takes care of herself (Pajamas, brushing teeth, flossing, mouth wash, shower on nights she needs it). She shares a room with her sister and they have bunk beds. I go in and turn lights off and give hugs at 8pm but she has a reading light in her upper bunk and she can read as much as she wants until she is tired. She does a lot of physical activities (dance and gymnastics) so she almost never stays up late. If she is having trouble sleeping she might ask me a to play a guided meditation to help her relax herself. She is usually out before 9pm.

Usually I need to prod him to get changed and brush/floss around 8. He still prefers baths and does that every other night (needs reminders to bathe). I tuck him in between 8:30 and 9:00, and then he reads on his own.

Around 7pm we start winding down. He just started running his own bath or shower (yes every night). Once in awhile I step in to scrub his hair if it’s been a particularly sweaty day or if I notice his hair has been looking not so fresh.

Sometimes he goes up to shower earlier, in which case he can then come down to play a family boardgame or just have more time in the main part of the house before going up to brush and floss (yes flosses every night). Again, all on his own unless I notice his breath has been bad.

Ideally around 7:30 I read to him and we say a prayer. He can read by himself after that and I check on him around 8-8:15 to make sure lights are out. He is awake at 7am to get ready for school.
