Read JD Vance’s signal comments - I think the underlying background narrative is that they are prepping for Iran bombing campaign:

Iran is very mountainous plus urban areas. The US would have to commit a majority of the military plus reserve.

But why do it? The only reason is Israel wants it done.

Incorrect, the last administration stood with democracy and our allies. Though, to be fair, we could get Russia out of Ukraine in a day.

Sadly for you, who sees everything through an anti-Israel lens, the U.S. is clearsighted when it comes to identifying threats to global stability. Iran is pushing themselves closer to the top of the list through not only their continued sponsorship of Palestinian terror groups, but with their nuclear ambitions which, if realized, could threaten more than their immediate neighbors. A new stone age for them seems like a worthy goal.
