DCUM’s knowledge of Canada

Canadians have so many colleagues, coworkers, friends, and family in the US. We respect each other, and have so much in common, although we are funnier (Mike Myers, Seth Rogan, Catherine O’Hara, and Eugene and Dan Levy to name a few). Why do support placing tarrifs on us, and annexing us?

The majority of Americans have no interest or support for what Trump is doing. Certainly the coasts, at least the west coast and Half of Virginia and north, would prefer to be Canadians to what Trump is doing.

Only one person I'm aware of is interested in annexing Canada. And he isn't anyway either.

If you want answers, ask people in the south, industrial Midwest and farm country. Not us.

We are tired of arguing about Trump. He is indefensible. We are angry and bitter.

Congress even renamed their "French fries" "freedom fries", because they're so dumb they don't even know fries are Belgian.

You should never expect any loyalty from the US, Canadian OP.

In the Boston vicinity there are streets and other things named after Lafayette if that makes you feel any better.

I know. I have been on here (DCUM) for a decade. I love my American friends. OP here

And his history in the United States saved him from execution by the French during the French Revolution. Which is to say when it comes to these relationships, it’s complicated.

But the trade war is foolish and that isn’t complicated. OP my family will vacation in Canada a few times in this administration, which is all I personally can do because, like most people on this board, I didn’t vote for him.

That’s nice. Now do independence for Québec.

I remember. Canada refused to be part of those wars as well.

THAT IS ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT. Canada lost 159 troops fighting alongside us in Afghanistan.

OP here. Doesn’t that debunk some of the Republican theories that Canada is being overtaken by the Chinese then?

China is not our ally. You are. Why are you placing 25% or more on our commodities, including food, when we are friends? This is your government’s doing.

Good points, and I am a believer in NAFTA; it’s inescapable we are neighbors and we are natural allies due to our common cultural origins. All true.

But can you also agree Trudeau must have had a “Make Canada Great Again” / Canada-first” policy in place when he chose to use import tariffs against China?

If you are such a keen observer of US politics and policies, why are you asking this question here as if we have anything to do with this or any control?

Some of the over all level / but gossip-worthy “social promises” are being kept. That was a a big part of their election-campaign. As PP assist, far as I know, no citizen was aware that Tariff Wars would start ruin the first 100 days of this new leadership. No one knew that the US would start acting aggressive toward the EU and Canada. This is a great surprise to everyone

+1 DH has joked about “hating” Canadians ever since I’ve known him, with the joke being who would ever hate Canadians because all of our friends from there, and every Canadian we’ve ever met, are so failingly nice. For the US v Canada hockey game he bought a Canadian flag and has been flying it since.

OMG you know nothing about isolationism, nor diplomacy. It puts us last. We lose our world standing and influence. Sad.
