what colleges still take counselor calls?

Yep. These are counselor calls. Used to happen during decision making. Now happens during WL. High schools may have a kid who is a star and/or important who is still not happily committed

Smaller schools that take a few kids from the school every year.
I would expect (I am guessing) that Holy Cross would accept a counselor call from Regis.

My kid's school counselor did that for her top choices. It was useful in building a list and understanding safety/target/reach, but didn't provide any advantage.

Happens during WL a lot at our non-DMV private. Mostly for schools like WashU, Emory, CMU, Georgetown.

+1 What a bizarre question. How would anyone on DCUM have info on this for "colleges." There are thousands of colleges.

Mostly done for waitlist management. Colleges can call HS counselor where they have a few kids on the waitlist and find out if any kids are more interested than the others. Or if a superstar they've waitlisted got shutout in RD.

Can be positioned as a follow up/deeper dive to the written counselor recommendation, so in a gray area, but justifiable.
