UNC, UVA or UCLA (all OOS)

Very comparable, mine would prefer UNC.

These are all peer schools, let your kid chose.

We are in same boat. With ucb and umich in the mix. Most likely will choose uva. Due to cost and ease of mcintire and its clubs.

Would she be ok staying in the NC area after school, or prefer the DC area?

UCLA
UVA
UNC

I'm a UVA alum and loved it, but I would not turn down college in LA.

My DD is a freshman at UCLA. She’s very happy there, growing from experiencing a new part of the country and navigating life there. Having rich outdoor experiences, good socially. Getting into classes seems a bit haphazard compared to my SLAC. But she wanted a big rah rah school with good academics and motivated students. It’s working out very nicely. Has good friends.

UCLA due to its national reputation and secondarily, it is ranked as the top US public university

You wish. UCLA, Berkeley, Michigan and maybe UNC are peer schools.

Agree these are all peer schools. I don’t think the proposed majors are a deciding factor for any of them. Would choose based on location, visits, etc. as well as cost if that matters to you, as they are different on that front.

All are OOS. High achieving, social girl who is interested in stats/data science. Possibly in economics/finance.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Thank you!

My kid would choose UCLA because so few kids from her small private end up with that choice, and it has such a great reputation.

UNC I believe is much cheaper than the other two OOS. They are all strong schools.
