What are they reading in 8th other than Google IT?

Literacy: reread the comment. They are reading the Google IT in the 6th grade, not the 8th grade.

7th grade at DHMS they just finished the Outsiders. Most of English is on paper. They each get a copy of what they are reading.

Math has a textbook that comes home with your student at the start of the year. But homework is iXL. Math is a mix of paper and iPad. As long as your child starts with pre-algebra in 6, they will be at least a little challenged.

That "textbook" is a joke and the same sort of "textbook" the elementary schools get that is completely ignored. I think my DS attempted one page in it, but had to spend more time completing IXLs on his ipad to get credit

FWIW, my kid in HS has math almost entirely on paper. The tests are on paper, the notes are on paper, and at least some of the assignments are as well (they probably upload a photo or something— I see him working on paper when doing his homework). And in 8th grade geometry, they had a real, hardcover textbook that they used.

NP but the 6th grade pre algebra textbook isn’t a textbook. It’s a workbook like what they used to give out before the summer in elementary school. 6th grade pre algebra is… not particularly well taught.

Which HS is this? WL? IB or non-IB?

The teacher doesn't teach from it or assign work in it. It was sent home in case kids want to do extra problems.

Ok. And? It’s still a reference your kid can use if your kid doesn’t understand the material.

Some people just like to complain about everything.

I think if you read it, it doesn't actually teach anything. If your child doesn't understand the material, they are not going to get it from this workbook unless you sit down with them and teach them from it. It's put together with the perspective that a teacher is supposed to be guiding you through it.
So it's also assuming a parent would understand how to teach it. so you know not complaining, but still not a real textbook.

It’s an actual hardboard, standard textbook.

Do you even have kids at DHMS?

NP. DHMS 6th grade pre-algebra does not have an actual hard, standard textbook. Do YOU have a kid in 6th grade pre-algebra at DHMS?

If you scroll up you will see that I’m talking about the ALGEBRA textbook. That is an actual, hardbound textbook.
