why all the fuss about living on the West side of 270? Is the East side all that bad?

From my understanding RM tests better because they include the students in the IB program. Not all of the students are IB.

West of 270 has better commuting. This is the main reason. Better access to back roads means better commute, means more expensive houses, means better schools. It filters down. I moved west of 270 because my husband grew up in here and wanted a better commute. I live in Gaithersburg and am districted to Northwest, for no apparent reason. Every elementary school around me is Quince Orchard! Anyway, Northwest is ranked lower than other Montgomery County schools (although still in the top 1% of the country.....remember we're comparing better and best, not good and bad), but the people I know who have kids there are mostly happy and say the teaching is good and there aren't gang issues. I want our daughter to go to Quince Orchard because it's smaller and I like the idea of a smaller school. The kids I've met seem to prefer Northwest because it's newer and larger and has more facilities. The "bad" Germantown school is Seneca Valley and it is also west of 270. It has a ton of gang issues.
