Urine pregnancy test with IVF before beta?

Anonymous
a little off topic, but i made a list of things i would do if teh test was neagtive (and it was)... not really fun stuff like "have wine! party!" but things that i thought would help me be beter prepared if and when i finallly will get pregnant (loose weight, get dental surgery implants etc)

I just can't wait to know (or have an inkling) and feel like I need it to mentally prepare. This is especially the case since the day of the beta is a work day and I'd rather not hear the news while at work without being prepared. Anyone else do this or have thoughts?

I do it every time and I don't see what the big deal is or why that "isn't a good idea". Those tests are very accurate.

They are not always accurate for women undergoing IVF. If the embryo does not implant and you take a urine pregnancy test, you can have a false positive because of the HCG in your system from the trigger shot. HCG is what the urine home pregnancy test measures. It just isn't as sophisticated as the beta. OP - I'll soon be in my first two week wait period and I know I will not take a home pregnancy test. They are banished from my house. I have done too many and had too many negatives. When my husband and I confirmed IVF was our only hope for a baby I vowed never to do one again. I haven't looked back and have been much happier. I've been a trooper through this process - no one at work suspects a thing. So, I also vowed that when I do get the call sometime in mid-October and if I am at work - I give my permission to stroll on out of there if I want to leave. This happens to be what works for me, however. I tend to think it might ease your anxiety to make a similar vow but to each her own. GOOD LUCK!

Beta also measures HCG. The only difference is that beta is more price. However, if you are pregnant, you don't need that kind of precision. All the tests will show you are pregnant, and soon.

Yup, I really liked thinking that I was pregnant until the last possible moment.

Are you driving and texting at the same time?

Be cautious about the HCG in your system. I know everyone says by 10 days it should be out of you and that's what I thought at the beginning of this process as well. 5 cycles later I now know that my body holds on to it like nobody's business...I just metabolize it reaaaallllyyyy slowly. As in, was getting false positives 14 days later. So make sure to test it out of your system first!!! Good luck!

I tested at 10dp3dt. I just HAD to know. Luckily, we had good news, and my RE had me come in the next day for a beta.

I am a POAS addict. It helps me mentally for whatever crazy reason. You can get cheap wondfo tests on Amazon. I got 50 tests for $19.

I did test on all my cycles. I started testing at 10 dpo (5dp5dt). On my fresh cycle, I got a positive at 10dpo. On my 2 FETs, I didn't see a clear positive til 12-13dpo. Betas were pretty good each time at 15dpo...

I like how those pregnancy test are demonized by RE offices while in fact no other TTC/ART tool works nearly as well.

^^^ I've never heard them demonized. But I did have some positive HTPs that were chemical pregnancies. My RE was able to give me warning based on my betas that things were iffy. The HTPs just said YES. So now I wait.

im 34, 4 children natural, 16,14,12,10. this is my second cycle. my tubes are tied after the 10 year old. my first cycle was very weird i hate needles but quickly got use to them. As i was on the table for ER my blood pressure shot up to 300/140 or somethig like that and the drs had to stop the procedure. so now we started again blood pressure under control but now im in the 2WW. this is the HARDEST of the cycle for me. DH is supportive of my mood swings and cravings but im not sure sometimes if the dr even put our embies in. UGH. i had severe cramping last three nigts. Im 7dp3dt no spotting just MAJOR cramping. now the cramping has stopped. i have OCD and all i keep doing is obsessing over these negative POAS tests and if this really worked. im going CRAZY for real!!

oh and good luck to every one May God not makes us too crazy! ?

I got my first positive 3dp5dt after that I went crazy and tested 3-4 times a day every day until beta. I know it's crazy but I loved doing it.

I did the HPT each time! I'd rather be prepared either way ahead of time for the news and was way too anxious to wait any longer than necessary! I finally got BFP 7 days after a 5 day transfer.
