Why are you on the thread, then?

Trump cares about Canada, that's why he talks about a 51st state. In some part of his teeny tiny brain, he knows there are resources the US needs.

Have a quick look at what potash is for and where it comes from. Then learn who controls what comes INTO a country.

She's good at explaining. (I'm not)

An election is expected to be called this week. Then the usual $hit show of mud slinging and name calling begins.

+1 Canada has an official beginning to the election season instead of here where we have people who wander around Iowa for years. Trudeau stepped down and Carney is the new leader of the Liberal Party which is currently in power so he’s the current PM, the election is whether to continue or elect Polivre who’s the leader of the Conservatives.

Yup

World, look to the U.S. and consider carefully if you want to follow the right.

You'll be voing to leave the heel prints of tyranny on your descendants necks.

Unfortunately, we do have a percentage of the population who think Trump is wonderful, and everything would be fine if Trudeau hadn't been Prime Minister. I'm more than a little worried.

You'll always have those people. I think it’s a modern curse.

Who you really need to watch are the uninterested and checked out citizens.

If somehow 1/3 of eligible voters in the U.S. had actually decided to get educated about how a Trump presidency would affect the country, I think we would have had the chance at a different outcome

But lucky for you, Trump seems to doing a fine job of reducing the number of checked out Canadians. Wishing you the best outcome. I've been near Canada my whole life and have nothing but welll wishes for it.

Elbows up!

Mark Carney called a snap election so it will be on April 28, 2025.

It's a parliamentary system, so each Canadian votes for the MP (member of parliament) running in their riding and the party with the most seats wins and becomes the governing party. The 2nd most votes becomes the official opposition as there are more than 2 parties.

Each party has voted internally for a ruler to head it. Polievre is heading the Conservatives and Carney was voted to head the Liberals after Trudeau resigned as party leader.

It seems there are anumber of Canadians who didn't pay attention in school, and don't understand the parliamentary system. They're complaining about Mark Carney not being elected, and has never held a seat in Parliament. The rules don't require that.

Liberals are currently leading in the polls.

Libs took 20percentage points from Conservatives and NDP in the 2 months since Trump's inauguration.

Libs+NDP now have 70% chance of majority, and 20% chance of plurality plus coalition with NDP/others

Trump is a lead weight dragging down all his allies and rightwingism in general. The post-Covid reactionary right wave was short lived, as the world realizes that the only thing worse than the left wing is the right wing.

I wonder if Alberta would consider secession and/or joining the US if the Liberals win this election. They are culturally and economically closer to Montana and the other nearby red states than they are to Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Vancouver.

There certainly seem to be a number of Twitter bots that are in favor of that plan.

They won't leave. Danielle will make a lot of noise and dumb decisions, but leaving is not to their benefit.
