They let you check the mattress before paying? That’s impressive. Can you offer a script of what you say? I can’t imagine getting permission to do this, what language unlocks that? |
| Have you traveled or stayed in a hotel recently? |
It's easy. I would like to check out the room to see if it has bed bugs before I check in. Even the Ritz has had problems. The difference is they throw out the mattress and fumigate the room. In fact most high end hotels now have whole bed bug proof mattress covers. |
Body trunk and arms tell me this is likelier some sort of a rash than bug bites. Bugs don't discriminate where they bite. Unless your kid was outside shirtless but wearing long pants and there were mosquitoes around this doesn't look like bites to me. Had your kid been stressed lately, had an infection or antibiotics or some other change in diet/medications? |
| If they go from looking like bites to getting crusty, my guess would be impetigo and he'd need an antibiotic cream |
You need a script?? Ok, well I'm no playwriter but I just say something along the lines of: "Hi, I'm _______ and checking in. Do you have (insert type of room you desire) available?" or if you booked in advance "I reserved a (type of room). May I have the key to check it out before signing in?" I learned decades ago to always check the room before paying. Have been a few times the room was trashed, or still dirty, or a plumbing fixture or TV didn't work. It's not unusual at all to ask to "see a room first". |
It is unusual to ask. We all understand the why. It’s not a common practice. |
| google photos of different kinds of bites. inspect mattress, sheet, pillow. |
| Bed bug bites usually come in threes, breakfast, lunch and dinner, as some say. Unless there’s more than one |
| Could also be a fungus--some look like bug bites. If it keeps spreading across his body, get a prescription for fungal cream. |
What is "common" for you may not be common for others. If you have been around the service industry or hotel biz, you'd know. If you feel like you are being rude to ask to view a room, consider why you would feel that way. Do you commonly pay for things sight unseen, or ask to view them for paying? |
It's not fungal. |
