Metal detectors will detect knives and guns with metal parts (which are most guns on the market). They will absolutely act as deterrent, and can save lives in case a shooter enters the building.

Those who argue that MCPS isn't competent enough to have metal detectors are the same ones who didn't like electricity in homes when it was made available in the early 20th century.

Uh, no. That's a stupid analogy. Those of us who argue that MCPS isn't competent enough to run weapons detectors state so because we have been in the belly of the beast and observed and experienced the gross level of incompetence that exists within the system. That you are ignorant or naive to that fact does not mean we are wrong.

Here's a fun fact: They're implementing vape detectors now and they don't have a plan on how to respond operationally or for long-term maintenance. What makes you think if they can't do that sufficiently for vape detectors that it'll be done for weapons detectors?

10 steps behind when they should be ahead it is after all the largest school district in MD!

The meeting will be another part of the gaslighting agenda. See Moran, Peter.

Sickening. Do these people have kids of their own?

Is mcps afraid it won't be seen as one of the better school systems in the country because it gets weapons detection systems in its high schools? Is this STILL about image and optics? My f g

Such pathetic whining.

I believe it is mostly about budget, staffing, and logistics.

It's all about all of those things.

MCPS does not want to have to invest in weapons detectors because imagewise, it puts them on the same footing as PGCPS and DCPS, who they've always held themselves up as better than.

They also don't want to invest the money, staffing and resources to do it because they want to use that money to plug other holes in the budget.

They want principals to get their schools under control so that they aren't forced to spend on this kind of stuff.

Wake up, MCPS, it is not the 90s! That "image" you're holding onto has long long passed!!!

Any MCPS leader who should be at the meeting but doesn't show should step down.

ALL 211 schools families should attend.

They should move the meeting venue out of BCC cafeteria.
Anonymous
Students are saying "so what is mcps doing to improve situation today, yesterday?" while people discuss detectors and what not."

Vape detectors - at MS and HS levels? With no plan on how to manage the program. And Taylor approved this...

Wait. BCC has no metal detectors or safety officers?

Imma keep my DS in DCPS, where they know better.

Aren't there new technology and will the ones they plan to install already be outdated by the time they actually install them?
