Why is Lester Holt stepping down?

I remember him from WBBM Channel 2 in Chicago. He was great but the station was always in last place and never kept anchors long. He got the last laugh by going to NBC National and rising to the top spot. I was thrilled for him then and happy he can go on his own terms now. He’s been doing this a long time and deserves to cut back.
