not loving Capital One - can anybody suggest their bank?

I'm not happy about CCB going away, but so far, the transition has been pretty seamless. I didn't like what was happening to my checking account, so I went in and switched to a different type. Took about 2 seconds at the teller window. Online checking worked fine last night when I logged on. So far, nothing is so bad that I'd go through the hassle of switching banks.

I've been happy with Wachovia for years now. I have free checking, online banking and a credit card through them. Not sure what will change as they get more fully absorbed into Wells Fargo, though. (WF has my mortgage and I've been happy with them, too.)

Oh no. I didn't read the packet too closely. Can anyone tell me what the main checking changes are? In my quick once-over I don't recall seeing anything that raised a red flag.

What, do you have a broken arm, as my father used to say? Read the info yourself and see if they apply to your financial situation!

The changes depend on the type of checking account you have. Many of them didn't change at all (that I could tell).

Capital One never had retail banking, that is why they bought CCB. They have kept all the CCB people. The website is the only change I have noticed and it is better than the old CCB site, which was pretty archaic. Hopefullt, it will improve more and allow you to search for checks, etc.

I was too, until I tried to refinance...

Very happy at PNC as well. Love the drive thru tellers.

I'm also a former CCBanker and I hate bill payment on the new Cap One site. It is terrible!!!! When you have more than one bill with the same company you cannot see the account numbers. We have 2 insurance policies with Erie and I cannot schedule a payment without many many clicks to know which account I am paying toward. This is a BIG glick and I'm ready to switch. They lines that you enter payments on also are not separated enough to prevent mistyping on the wrong line. Bad news. I've sen two emails about the problems with bill paying online and haven't heard anything.

I was a customer of Bank of America for many years (Sovran/Nationsbank/B of A) and never had a bad experience. We recently consolidated all of our accounts to Sun Trust (my husband's preference) and have had only good experience with them as well.

Can you rename the accounts? Every bill pay I've seen let's you give the account a nickname, as well.

In VA, Burke & Herbert has excellent service. Also, I banked with Wachovia for 6 years and they have great service, and don't charge any fees that most other banks charge.

But look into a Credit Union. Haven't come across one yet that wasn't better than a bank.

Completely agree.

M&T - we had issues with Capital One with our credit cards - they froze mine after not sending my $15 bill and the guy yelled at me for being late with my payment. Really, I pay every month in full and you froze it - it was my only credit card (except my husband's as we had each other's) and they would not unfreeze it in less I gave them a credit card or my debit number over the phone for $15 (really, some people owe $1000's) - I just wanted it for an emergency. So, it got canceled. NEVER AGAIN>

Geez, I'm glad you're not my mom...or my kids' mom for that matter. I just thought since the subject just came up it would be fresh in someone's mind. At any rate, I looked it up online and the major thing seems to be that after the first year all checking accounts have a $8.95 fee. Not good. But I'm going to see how things go over the next few months before deciding whether to stay or switch banks. I've been with Chevy Chase since they had that cute tree logo once upon a time.
