not loving Capital One - can anybody suggest their bank?

Anonymous
I'm a former Chevy Chase banker who is really not pleased any of the interactions i've had with Capitol One customer service. I have had rude customer service reps for my mortgage, and right now, I've been on hold for ten minutes trying to get my online banking password reset. The promise of a seamless transition didn't hold up this morning when I tried to login to my "new" account. If this is what I can come to expect, I need to find a new bank, and now.

Does anybody love their bank?

I'm a Chevy Chase customer lamenting its demise. I just tried logging in and didn't have a problem changing my password or accessing any of the online banking. So I guess I'll be sticking with Capital One...until I have to deal with their customer service at any rate.

Are you in DC, MD or VA?

In VA, Burke & Herbert has excellent service. Also, I banked with Wachovia for 6 years and they have great service, and don't charge any fees that most other banks charge.

But look into a Credit Union. Haven't come across one yet that wasn't better than a bank.

I am in the process of ditching Capital One and getting Northwest FCU -- just waiting to verify that direct deposit and debits are all working as they should.

I loved Chevy Chase Bank, too, and hated to see it go, but I've had no problems so far in the transition to Capital One, and I certainly don't want to give up all the locations - both branches and ATMs. Good luck finding such easy access to your money with a credit union.

The tellers at BBT are lovely! But BBT doesn't have as many branches as some banks.

We use Schwab, and it's really easy to get connected to a live person when you call in, who can actually help you. They reimburse you for all ATM fees and pay you interest (although not much) on the checking account. The only downside is there really aren't any branches, but I do everything online anyway. Whenever I occasionally get a paper check, I just mail it in for a deposit. It's very easy.

bank of america. love it...no problems with anything. look into keep the change. we take that money and put it towards our vacation. also, I like their ATM's...very easy to deposit cash and checks. no need to go to inside the bank.

i loved CCB. havent had any issues with transition. You really cant beat the number of ATMs and branches in the area. if you're worried about the transition, give it time. its day one.

I've been pretty happy with Suntrust. I had to call customer service once and they were pleasant and very helpful.

Love PNC. Free ATMs everywhere (they reimburse you for fees charged at other banks' ATMs) and their customer service is great.

My husband works at Cap One and is former CCB employee brought over with acquisition. In essence, Cap One Bank is CCB. Retail banking is entirely new division made up of former CCB people. There is almost no overlap with Cap One's existing business lines. Not that everything will be perfect and the same as it was, but it's mostly the same, local people working there.

And we were long-time customers of CCB and Cap One (for our credit card) before he began working there.

I'm not loving Cap One either. The customer service has been terrible. I hate the idea of banking with a credit card company. Did any body read that lame welcome packet that they were foreshadowing for months? They are actually taking away alot of the benefits of my checking account. I too am looking to switch.
