Yes, yes it is. |
Its illegal to enter a country without a visa or papers or to overstay a visa. So yes they're illegal. Changing the terminology doesn't change the facts. |
No, it's not a criminal offense. |

Given DC’s status as a federal district, is the DC government and/or MPD obligated to participate in federal immigration enforcement?
I understand why local police departments neglect to enforce - these are federal laws and constitute an unfunded mandate. But DC is a federal entity. |
In addition to their illegal entry or VISA overstay, 100% every adult illegal "immigrant" is breaking multiple laws... If they work, they are either doing it with false identity papers (identity theft; fraud; etc.) or under the table (tax evasion). |
Umm... they have cancer in all of the countries where these people come from. They can cure it there. (And what a joke argument.) |
Even the liberal National Immigration Project acknowledges that illegal entry is a crime... "While immigration violations are considered civil offenses, §§ 1325 and 1326 are misdemeanor and felony violations, respectively, in the criminal context. Under federal law, people who enter or reenter the United States without authorization are subject not only to civil immigration detention and deportation proceedings but also to criminal sanctions." https://nipnlg.org/unauthorized-entry-re-entry-prosecutions#:~:text=Under%20federal%20law%2C%20people%20who,but%20also%20to%20criminal%20sanctions. |
By this logic, you are fine with letting every single person who wants to come here come? You know what kind of economic, environmental, and societal damage that would do?! |
Reading comprehension is fundamental. Why didn't you post the rest of the article?
It's talking about an individual with prior convictions and charge with § 1326 "illegally Reentry" |
There are many, many law enforcement agencies in DC. There is some overlapping jurisdiction among them, but they try to keep the likes clear, in part based on who is funded to do what. If Group A does Group B's job for them, they are neglecting their own work and also not getting paid for having done Group B's work. |
NP: Circumstances matter. It is not illegal in every situation, nor is it criminal in every situation. Sometimes it is; sometimes it isn't. |

Yes, Bowser is helping ICE and aligned with Trump.
"Bowser no longer uses the phrase 'sanctuary city,' she said last month, 'because I think it is misleading.'" ... "It's misleading to suggest to anyone that if you're violating immigration laws, that this is a place where you can violate immigration laws," she said. "You are vulnerable to federal immigration enforcement." https://www.axios.com/local/washington-dc/2025/03/07/sanctuary-city-bowser-trump-deportations-ice |
True. The problem is, that exactly this has been tolerated, (and rather encouraged), including by big business owners and those in power, for 50++ years across every administration. It has been completely normalized. I don’t know any other country where this set up is even conceivable. In many countries you can get nothing done without your national ID or papers that show your status. This includes all of Europe last I checked. The other problem is that legal immigration, over the same amount of time, has become the biggest, most difficult, most lengthy process, and rarely, if ever, has anyone tried to amend this. (Nor has the current administration any plans apparently either, sadly.) |
I read the sentence above where it says "enter or reenter." Careful with those comprehension issues. |
These two things... illegal and legal immigration are not linked. Anyway, we allow nearly two million legal immigrants each year. I'm kind of done. Our foreign born population is too high, and we need to assimilate people and make sure that our own young people have jobs (not to mention older people supported by the government) before importing more. |
