Never put meds in checked luggage. I always carry meds with me for multiple reasons. I would have taken this deal in an instant.

We had a direct flight that was oversold so they offered people $1500 each in travel certificates to take a later flight with a connection and arrive six hours home later. That would have been 6 k for all. I didn’t say yes because I imagined getting stuck in the connecting city and the bags would have stayed on original flight so I didn’t have contacts or synthroid or tampons and my kids didn’t have their coats. But now I really regret it. What would you have done?

Packed better

We took the deal one time when flying back from spring break: $3k voucher which we used for our flights the following year.

I wouldn't do this if travelling with children.

But wondering if OP is a troll- who puts meds and toiletries in checked baggage?

Still if no kids, would have taken the flight vouchers, checked bags or not.

Would you have gone through Toronto?

Never pack meds in checked luggage.

Op No Denver which I typically don’t love flying to and from because it’s always so turbulent

I asked because a Delta flight crashed today at Pearson.

I travel a lot and get an offer maybe 20% of the time. I never take them, as my trips are for busines and arriving a day later isn't a feasible option. But if I was retired, I'd totally do it. My father did it and used the voucher for a nice trip to Montana in off-season.

I’d never do this traveling with kids. And even when traveling solo, I’m usually rushing home to help relieve my spouse with the kids.

It’s tough to make it work as a family.

Lesson learned - never check meds no matter what. Tampons? Dumb - you could have purchased a lot, and how many do you really need in 6 extra hours? We’ve done this and airlines often live the families accepting it bc one large family can usually clear the overage. We have 4 kids so it’s easy for them. If no one is taking the voucher, you can ask for a higher amount.
