Anon at 15:57, LOL!
I had an almond/almond cupcake the other day at Lilly Magilly and it was great. Better than GC, better than the Red Velvet shop in Chinatown, better than Cakelove. (But I do like all of those.) Cakelove favors the buttercream frostings, GC seems to be mostly cream cheese. (I forget Red Velvet). LM seemed to be a great hybrid frosting. Not too heavy, not too sweet, and not too much of it. |

I went to Lily's tonight and was not impressed. Cute shop, yes. Good cupcakes, uh no. Door - Waaaaay too heavy. To hold a dozen cupcakes and get that door with one hand (and a little one in tow behind me) was tough! There was only one other person there. There was one kinda clueless but nice girl behind the register and one person baking.
The cupcakes they had available were: Vanilla/Vanilla Vanilla/Choc Choc/Choc Choc/Van Peanut butter peanut butter choc red velvet It looks like a lot but besides the red velvet they were all just basic flavors. We bought a dozen between 4 adults and 2 kids. I thought the cupcakes were small and very generic tasting. The chocolate was dry with choc chips inside, the vanilla, too artificial. My husband said the red velvet at CPK was better. What I don't understand is the old fashion soda. Very cute idea but who the heck is going to go in there and get one high calorie/sugar cupcake and wash it down with a high calorie/sugar caffeinated beverage. Didn't make sense. There is no where to sit inside and 3 small flimsy tables outside that may only get about a month more of use. The other major thing is parking is a PIA there. They should have a 15min Lily only spot right outside for those wanting to do take-out orders. I hope the cupcakes will get better but since most places in the shopping center don't last, I would be surprise if this makes it. I will go back again in a month or so to see if they have improved. |
There is always parking right behind JOS Banks which is across the street. |

I'm really surprised to hear so many complaints about Lilly Magilly's. Small cupcakes? They are the same size as Gtown Cupcakes and Cake Love. Generic tasting? WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN? Please look up the meaning of the word "generic." A product doesn't taste generic, it is generic if it isn't trademarked or served under a specific brand.
My family and I go often and are always happy. Sure we enjoy some flavors more than others. We order particular flavors based on whether we want dense cupcakes or fluffy ones. Lilly Magilly's provides both options. We've found that the chocolate cake flavors are denser, while the banana, red velvet, almond, and vanilla are a fluffier cake. I think the cupcakes are great and the store is super cute! |

For those who have gotten cupcakes at Cake Dreams, how do they compare?
We like the cupcakes from Cake Dreams (the full size cakes, not so much), and CD is closer, but I'd drive to the Rio if Lilly Magilly's are better. |

People it is a cupcake not a bottle of fine wine. There simply is not that big a range in the cupcake experience. DCUM has a very strange love/hate relationship with cupcakes. I can't say I would drive anywhere just for a cupcake. I will say that RIO is convenient. There is a Target, bookstore, Dick's sporting goods, pottery painting place, a kid's gym that does birthdays, a few other shops, several chain type restaurants, a movie theater, a playground, the water with ducks and the bridge, and a little train that goes around the boardwalk.
If Lilly Magilly is reading, I hope that you stay in business. My kids love your place mostly because they love any cupcake, the name is fun to say, and they have been checking for months everytime we go to Target whether you will be open. |

I suppose I'm going to have to jump on the bandwagon of the PP... what I can't understand is who in the world would think that Lilly Magilly's special ordered "smaller" cupcake baking trays in an attempt to fool anyone? Give me a break....
My daughter loves Lilly Magilly's and as soon as my wife gets back from serving oversea's, she'll love them too! As the matter of fact, we just sent her a picture of her in the princess chair... Lilly Magilly's, we love you guys and will see you Friday! |
Both are great, IMHO. You won't disappoint with either! |
| Simply put, LM is fan-tas-tic! I had Key Lime, DH had Vanilla/Vanilla. 5/5!! |
| LM is ok - we much prefer Georgetown Cupcake. LM's icing is too sweet -- GC ingredients taste fresher and more natural...try their strawberry or chocolate squared - yummy. Off to try Cake Dreams! |
LM chocolate/chocolate is TOO DIE FOR. oreo was mighty good too )

i was totally disappointed with the cupcakes. they tasted like the frosting was from a can. they were stale and no variety.
i got 8 and all but one was no better than a tastycake. sorry. i had high expectations for 24.00. i would not go there again. but i hope they succeed. |
| Loved the red velvet and chocolate with chocolate...all moist and not too dense or too light. Perfect cake-to-frosting ratio! Big fan of their frosting, especially the straight up vanilla and cream cheese frosting. We are going tonight! |
| the chocolate cake is amazing. i've had it with a couple different frostings and all are great. i like that they're not trying too hard to make weird novelty flavors. definitely recommend! |
| I need to agree with the folks that don't like these cupcakes-they tasted almost stale-very dry and had quite a bit more frosting than I would've preferred-which was not a good thing-I didn't think the frosting was anything to write home about either. At $2.75 per cupcake I was expecting more. If you can bake cupcakes at home, the results would probably taste better than these. I don't think I'd go back or recommend LM to anyone else. Sorry! |
