| Does anyone know when they plan to open and why it's been delayed? |
| ?...they have stopped responding to people asking on their FB page. I hope it opens but (given the delays) I'm wondering... |
|
Got a inside scoop at an open house today, word is the shop will be opening the doors very soon.... I can tell you first hand the Red Velvet were to die for and the Cookies & Cream will have you wanting to come back for more. The agent hosting said his wife bakes them.... I guess we'll see....

I feel a little bad for this place....they missed the best time to open in Rio...the summer! Everytime I checked the FB it said "Coming this Summer" or "Opening this Summer!" then it turned into late August...then September....now late September after summer is over and school is back in session. That's not saying that they won't get customers, they sure will (and I'll check them out), but I think everyone got caught up in the hype of cupcakes and waited and waited....and forgot. I hope it's worth the wait!

| We were excited to attend the grand opening. When we arrived, there was not one cupcake on display or ready to serve. There were swarms of people standing around waiting, and the staff looked as if they had not been properly trained. When they finally brought out some cupcakes about half an hour later, they only had two flavors; vanilla and almond. Who wants to go to a cupcake shop and just get vanilla or almond? The cupcakes were small and nothing to brag about. Take a drive and go to Georgetown Cupcakes. |
| Yeah, I took the kids yesterday...they only had two flavors when we got there. Lots of staff standing around looking clueless. The cupcakes were good, but, for comparison, the cupcakes at Georgetown Cupcakes are better and prettier and cheaper. The shop is cute though. |
Yesterday was the grand opening.....so of course the staff is going to look confused and things will be a mess. They ran out of cupcakes around 3, then re opened at 6 pm with several flavors, I got the Red Velvet, it was tasty but pretty small. I think its unfair to compare them to Georgetown Cupcakes who are now a national phenomenon. Support local

I was there today. The staff seems really confused and the way they deliver the cupcakes was odd - you ordered at the register, then one of the employees boxed them up and tried to find the customer who ordered the cupcakes.
Today, around 2pm, they had two types of cupcakes - lemon and vanilla. They were ok, but nothing to write home about. In fact, the vanilla one tasted a lot like it came from a boxed cake mix. If you want excellent cupcakes (even better than Georgetown Cupcake), check out Cake Dreams in Rockville. Those cupcakes are fantastic. |
| I think the comparison to GC is fair given that LM is charging more. GC is local anyway. |
| When will the cupcake madness be over? I thought we were in the midst of a deep recession--according to regular people, not the well paid politicians. |

OP here - I finally got some cupcakes today! Went to the Grand Opening yesterday and didn't get any either because they were sold out. When I bought my cupcakes, there were 4 flavors to choose from so a little better.
Very cute decor and I liked my cupcake and so did my kids. I do think GC is the best cupcake, but I'm live in Rockville so will be getting my cupcakes from Lilly Magilly's or Cake Dreams for the most part. I wish the owners luck - it seems as if this is their first business and you can tell. But I hope they work all their kinks out quickly and become a success! Now when is 16 Handles opening? |
|
What's 16 Handles?
I'm glad to hear Lilly's finally opened. We'll be up there soon to try it out. Did they have pumpkin cupcakes?? |
| I bought a dozen, loved them! They had more flavors than PP experienced, maybe 5/6. It was packed and they appeared to be hustling in the kitchen (really cool, my son watched through the windows while they "picked" our order). Looks like they need to work the kinks out, hopefully they will. We are big movie goers, can we take them into the theater? |
| I talked to the owner of 16 Handles the other day.... according to him they will be opening mid to late October. "Such a weird time for a FROZEN yogurt place to open," I said. He said that they were originally planning for an August opening, however the big bosses kept changing the plans for the interior. |
| Some of you people are unbelievable, did it ever occur to you that they wanted to open earlier and ran into obstacles out of their control? What do you care if they open in the middle of winter, if you want ice cream, get some, if you don't, then don't. Other than that stfu, my guess is it wont effect your wallet if they open tomorrow or in January. You are deffinetly one of those a holes that isn't happy unless they are bitching and brining something down to feel better about yourself. |
