How many snowdays built-in? What if they go over?

I really don’t care if ES has their year extended.

What happens with AP classes where you take the AP a certain day in May no matter what?

You take the AP exam on that day. That’s why we should have fewer stupid holidays and start the school year earlier. Everything after AP exams is a waste of time. FCPS loves to waste smart kids’ time.

Definitely NOT earlier! They started the school year August 19. Less single day holidays if few people will be out though.

Next year's calendar is slated to be the LONGEST PLANNED non-year round school year that I've ever seen! August 18-June 17 because there are so many unnecessary closures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

did anyone else lose count how many we use?

I emailed the school board, and told them that we should go online after the 5th snow day. This year we had so many Snow Days. There no reason for the kids to be out of school for so long.

Often with snow, people lose power. More often, the parent is busy shoveling out and can’t facilitate online learning. Teachers may be home with young kids because daycare is closed.

I hate snow days but no thank you to online school.

FCPS has used 5 snow days this year, and there likely will not be anymore used. There have been four delays and one early release.

They need to just establish an absence percentage threshold (if they haven't already) for deciding when to close school.

For example, we have to close for Christmas because too many are at least nominally/secular Christians who will not be coming. Schools can't operate. If there is a decently high percentage of student/staff in FCPS that are Muslims (20%? 15%?), they should take their best guess at when Eid will be and close. This can get tricky since there isn't across the board agreement among Muslims. Some have 'Eid one day, others celebrate it the next. Same for Jews, Hindus, Jains, Bahai, Buddhists, etc.

One year they did one year, I remember they wanted to have Spring Break in the first week of April, I was okay with that. Some parents got mad so they give us all the other holidays.

Yes, school should start after Labor Day and end no later than the first week in June. Would still have room for snow days in the calendar.

Maybe Reid and the SB should master creating good calendars before embarking on boundary changes.

We are basing our school year on hours. We need 990.

The days we were out due to snow count against us.

The elementary early release days count against us (this is clearly stated on the early release page on the FCPS site).

I believe the delayed opening and early releases we've used for weather count against us.

They do not separate out elementary vs middle vs high in terms of hours. If elementary is in school less hours because of their early releases, that decreases the 990 as a whole for the district, not just elementary. This is the reason we never could go by hours back when the county had half day kinder and we just had 3 built in school days instead.
