How many snowdays built-in? What if they go over?

How many snow-days are built in? Is virtual still an option if they go over the allotted amount or do they extend the school year?

I suggest asking yourself how the county would achieve virtual instruction for every student, never mind in a way that wouldn't get them sued again over special ed. Just the logistics of teaching K-12 virtually. Think about it and get back to us!

Virtual days don't count as instructional days anymore.

We still have 3 or 4 days left I think and if we go slightly over, it's possible that we could get a wavier from the state.

They’ve gone over before in past years. They get a waiver from the state and days get excused. There is nothing to worry about.

And let’s say they extend the school year, which did happen when my current junior was in kindergarten. Don’t send your kids those days if you don’t want to. I doubt that will ever happen again.

This is not necessarily true anymore. Both Henrico and York County have used all of their snow days. In an emergency situation where a county may not meet the 180 days or 990 hour requirement, they are allowed to do an asynchronous learning day and it counts as a school day.

They can use up to 10 Virtual learning days. If they need more it will be up the board of education and the Governor

You’d have to start with the total number of originally scheduled hours and subtract the 5 snow days, yesterday’s early release hours and the 2 hour delays to figure out how many extra hours are left before falling below 990.

There are no more virtual learning days. Not allowed.

I think if you look on the Internet, you’ll see that remote learning days are allowed in the case of a weather emergency.

There are 11 snow days built into the calendar. FCPS has used 5 this school year (delays and early release aren’t counted). If we somehow manage to use more than 6 snow days, the days “lost” are added on to the end of the school year.

No, they have other paths before they add days

I believe they already used a day this week, referencing section C.5 https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title22.1/chapter8/section22.1-98/

If they go over they file a waiver with VDOE. They will not go over. It’s mid February- the opportunities for big, long lasting, impactful snow events are rapidly diminishing. They’ve only used 5/6 and at most there will be 1-2 more this entire winter. By March we are in the clear- I can only recall two snow events in March that were significant enough to cancel school in the past 12ish years. Bottom line: chill out

This isn’t true. It’s been explained that the extra time is built in through hours, not actual extra days. The state requires 180 days and that’s what FCPS schedules. FCPS exceeds the required hours.

High school and middle school have plenty of hours. Will never hit it.

ES could be in trouble due to all of the ER Mondays.
