Unpopular opinion: weight loss drugs are for everyone!

I really don't think these drugs are appropriate for anyone who experiences hunger. I think about food a lot, and eat a lot, and my weight holds steady around 118 pounds, which is what I weighed in high school (I'm just more active and eat better food now). I'm not going to go on these drugs just so I can eat as little as possible, be the smallest size possible, and never feel hungry again. For someone who had an ED, that does not sound healthy at all.

I wasn't dragging her for eating anything. I was simply observing that she was expressing guilt over what she was eating, and felt the need to justify it by saying she only ate fruit for breakfast and would be walking 10,000 steps on the golf course. This is exactly the kind of self-torture and mental war I engaged in for decades. I can eat grilled cheese now and not freak out about it, feel bad about it...or really feel anything about it. It's freaking awesome. I LOVE THESE MEDS! Not smug, only happy.

Yeah you were. DP

It sounds like you have a lifelong eating disorder. They are not for everyone.

She expressed guilt because she knew she was sitting with a judgy b. She probably didn’t realize that you are so nuts that you would post about it on the internet though.

I think the point here is that these GLP 1 meds can treat eating disorders at any weight for some people. Some of us have spent so much time and energy trying to cure ourselves, and this is a game changer because it turns out a large part of the issue is brain chemistry, same as other mental health disorders, and this is a powerful tool that can help many. So there should not be such stigma around it.

No, the really unpopular opinion is that so many excuses here are just about lack of discipline and it’s very sad for our population that you need pharmaceuticals rather than implementing and maintaining good habits

You think saying everyone should get weight loss drugs is unpopular? Look around, it’s an echo chamber.

I am very confident when I say that I was doing everything right in terms of exercising and tracking calories, and was still gaining weight in peri-menopause. It was not lack of good habits.

No medication comes without side effects. If not now, then further down the line.

I think people who really need them for diabetes and morbid obesity should absolutely take them, but it's FAR better to achieve goals through diet and exercise. Which most people just don't want to do.

What is the plan when you lose your desired amount of weight? These are forever drugs.

I'm naturally thin. So no, they are not for me. I'm 5'7 and have weight 110lbs my entire life. In pregnancies I onky gsined 20lbs, had 8pb babies. Walked out of the hospital in my regular jeans.

I've always been able to eat a grilled cheese whenever I want and never gained a pound. Just a naturally high metabolism. I still can today but I prefer a healthier diet.

Are you eating and exercising the same amount as before?

And to be clear, I am extremely skeptical that you are eating as much on this drug as you were off it. The whole point of this drug slows down your digestion and suppresses hunger.

It does more than that. It also affects insulin resistance, which is a big reason why fat is stored on the body. It's not just an appetite suppressant.

Yes, that’s why they are indicated for people with actual metabolic risk, not for people who are upset about vanity pounds.

I'm a NP, but insulin resistance is hard to overcome without extended fasting or a strict keto diet. GLP1s are great for inflammation and arthritis too.
