At age 47, with a BMI of about 27 or 28, I dropped 40 to 45 pounds without help, and now I've kept it off for 5 years. I just cleaned up my diet (well, mostly) and added moderate exercise and stuck with that. It took about 6 to 8 years to gain that weight and about 6 to 8 months to lose it. I didn't have to cut out meat, carbs, dairy, etc., or skip meals. A member of my household takes Ozempic and absolutely needs it. They're having trouble losing despite the meds. It's the women who weigh 120 and would prefer to weigh 107 who are maybe not the best candidates for these drugs. If you're of the mindset that you should never be hungry or interested in food again, you're likely going to end up somewhere closer to 90 pounds. I would hate to see "emaciated" become the preferred body type for the next generation. |

Well, if you want to end up in urgent care because you need help with a fecal impaction from drug side effects because you wanted to lose that stubborn extra 15lbs, more power to ya!
It's one of the most humiliating and painful things to ever happen to me. And it has happened more than once now. And that is just one side effect of many that I've had. But by all means ... weight loss drugs are for everyone! Yeah. Ok. Whatever you say. |
Drink some water, lots of water. |
This is terrifying. As are some of the GI issues that are life long and associated with these drugs. As someone with gut motility issues, I will warn people that you don’t want to mess with motility. It can ruin your life. People need to be careful… it’s reckless to say everyone should be on these drugs!! |
The bolded is a strange thing to write. Sure, if you are saying going from unable to able, I guess that is better sports performance. No significantly above age group average athlete is using these drugs for any purpose. |
| As long as people are fully informed, I see no problem with using any pharmaceutical. But using it while acting like some sort of martyr because eating habits that don't involve eating big piles of trash and some strength training is lame. |
Someone who has been to urgent care more than once due to constipation already knows to drink water. |
| Then they would also know to take a daily dose of Miralax |

These side effects sound god awful!
This article in the NYT was interesting. Comparing statins for high cholesterol to these new drugs. And the doctors themselves seem to be choosing them over… all the problems associated with being overweight! https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/10/health/doctors-ozempic-weight-loss.html?unlocked_article_code=1.wE4.G4nP.YLdggbQeB6eZ&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare |
I'm the PP with the GI issues. Of course I knew to try stool softeners. My doctor and I worked extensively to address the problem. This drug doesn't always respond to normal GI problem solutions/otc remedies. |
| Id rather be fat than take those drugs. |
| can we go to Dairy Queen now? |

Maybe everyone with a long-term addiction--and many people have hidden addictions. There's a reason they're using these drugs to treat alcohol and nicotine addictions. I don't think anyone would say that's a bad thing. If you have a food addiction, whether you're overweight or not, then it might be a good option.
I will say if you haven't tried hypnotherapy for your addiction, giving that a real try before going the glp-1 route is worth it. |
