She never claimed to practice medicine, she was not a cult leader like the quacks in Mexico.
She should have helped the one family she raised funds for.

Milla denied her mother medical care and pressured her into joining the cult.

Manufacturers all the time make claims that are not backed by science. She was just selling cook books and a wellness app

She claimed she beat brain cancer without any treatment, which was encouraging actual cancer patients to seek alternates to medicine. Exploiting cancer is a pretty crappy thing to do.

The actual illegal part was making claims of charitable donations off app downloads and other sales, and then pocketing the money.

That isn’t to say Milla was any better. She only got sympathy in the end because she died.

I think the pharmaceutical industry and health care industry and insurance also exploit cancer.
The clinic Milla went to is still around and they definitely exploit cancer .
Claims for natural remedies to cure cancer is nothing new.

She built the whole pantry franchise from nothing and it was just recipes and health food,

She built the whole pantry franchise from [a lie that garnered sympathy and attention] and it was just recipes and health food. I never used or heard of the whole pantry, but as it was portrayed, it was a beautiful app and the food looked great. Maybe it could have been successful without the cancer hook, but we’ll never know. Consumers don’t like to be deceived and that’s why she was summarily dropped when she was revealed to be a phony.

And again, the only thing she was fined for was the charity fraud part and she hasn’t paid any of it.

People died because they stopped treatment to follow what she was suggesting. Although we have no idea what the outcome would have Been had they gone a traditional chemo route instead, their blood is on her hands.

People definitely die going to the alternative clinics in Mexico.
She was not a cult leader. She had a following, she never counseled anyone individually and wasn’t in charge of anyone’s health care.
Her followers were free to seek medical care, which is really good and affordable in Australia.
Milla on the other hand was wealthy and declined good health advice. Bella was uneducated and self taught. Simple girl who had to find something to pay her bills

Milla is just as bad. I don't have sympathy for her.

Maintenance Phase did a podcast on her a few years ago. It's worth a listen for how bonkers she is.

How an Australian drama school helped shape talent flooding Hollywood

They may have perfected American accents, but some of the biggest names in Hollywood are Australian.

Many of the Australian actors, directors, writers and crew now working in Hollywood started learning their craft at NIDA, the National Institute of Dramatic Arts.

John Clark, NIDA's director for 35 years, set a goal from the start: unlocking a distinct, Australian mode of acting that combined the theater of London with Hollywood gloss, but still allowed Australia's national characteristics to shine through.

They are playing characters with such conviction and with such truth," Clark, now 92, said. "Without what Australians would call decoration."

For the record: it's iron ore. But it's easy to make the case that Australia's leading export is… acting talent. How has an island of only 27 million people minted Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Cate Blanchett, Mel Gibson, Margot Robbie, Chris Hemsworth… we can keep going here… Sarah Snook, Russell Crowe, Heath Ledger, Naomi Watts… to say nothing of so many Oscar-winning directors, designers and crew?

Wasn't talking about actors etc. Was talking about celebrity in Australia. How many Minogues can you name?

I’m not following your logic - a bunch of big Aussie names are listed above - like most of the well known celebrities from down under cited above, Kylie has not lived on Oz for years - she left soon after she made it big on Neighbors (left for London in 1990 but returned in 2022). Maybe you mean something else though?

To me, the proportion of Australian celebrities who have succeeded in US and UK is similar to Olympic medals - much more than you would expect for the size of the population. Not sure why but many of them appear to have graduated from Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art.

Apart from Kylie Minogue:
Hugh Jackman
Nicole Kidman
Chris Hemsworth
Cate Blanchett
Russel Crowe
Guy Pierce
Heath Ledger
Toni Collette
Margo Robbie
Liam Hemsworth
Rachel Griffiths
Olivia Newton John
Eric Bana
Mel Gibson
Geoffrey Rush
Sam Worthington
Isla Fisher
Naomi Watts
Jacki Weaver
Hugh Weaving
Portia de Rossi
Peter Finch
Errol Flynn
Judy Davis

But you are right that Oz is a relatively small pond - Oz population (27 million)is less than a tenth of US (335 million)

Mills is based on a real person whose mom died from cancer. Breast cancer is so treatable. Milla basically killed her mom by encouraging her to try alternative therapies. I don’t feel sorry for Milla (or the person she’s based on).

The series didn’t address where Belle got her recipes. Did she copy them from others or was she actually a cook?

Apple Cider Vinegar didn’t address the source of her recipes, but the journalist who interviewed Gibson on Australian 60 Minutes said they’d come from the internet.

Milla really believed in what she was doing though. Milla believed she was helping people. She was tragically wrong, but she had good intentions. Belle is knowingly lying and manipulating people.
