All this "Fenty running as a Republican" talk must have been dreamed up by a Gray operative, as it will surely hurt him at the margin with the kind of committed D voters who turn out for a primary. |
Feh. I wouldn't be so sure. DC's not like everywhere else. The "kind of committed D voters who turn out for a primary" in, say, Maryland are the committed Democratic party base. In DC, the folks who vote in the Democratic primary are...well...pretty much everybody who wants to participate in DC politics, and who is savvy enough to realize that registering as anything but Dem is throwing away the smidgen of enfranchisement that DC residents are afforded. In other words, you've got it exactly backwards: DC primary voters are a broader cross-section of the political spectrum, not a narrower one. |
Perhaps; I'm not expert in DC politics. I just think that "he's not really one of us" is pretty powerful medicine in politics and if I were Gray I'd be happy to hear this today, although would be annoyed if I beat Fenty only to have to run against him *again*.
I don't really have a dog in this fight, not living in the District, but I'm curious to see how it works out. |
PP again. I know many "Republicans" who are registered Democrats in DC. I know die-hard liberals who would love nothing more than to vote in this election, but who can't because they're registered as "Independents", "No Party", etc.. It really is bizarro-world politics, and the usual rules are turned on their heads. |
But pp these *are* the usual rules. I didn't count but according to this website: http://archive.fairvote.org/?page=1801 it looks as if *more* states have closed primaries than open ones. The reason it seems bizarre is because Democrats are so dominant in the District but the closed primary itself is quite common. Or maybe I misinterpreted your post and you're only saying it's bizarre because of the Republicans registered as Democrats when the liberals aren't. If so, sorry! |
It doesn't matter whether Fenty wins today or on November 2. A win is a win is a win. |
Not that it's any of your business, but my marriage is in excellent shape. My husband loves me for my pretty face, my athletic body, AND my National Merit Scholar/Ivy League undergrad/MBA mind. And I love him back. It's a happy situation and though I find your interest creepy and possibly reflective of a borderline personality disorder? I'm happy to be able to report that we're delighted to be celebrating a milestone anniversary in a couple of months! Now, back to those promising Republican votes for Fenty which you're so sure will turn our blue District red? I'm FASCINATED to know where they'll come from! Please tell me more. |
Tee-hee, you are funny. I have not heard that term in years...refreshing. |
It appears your intellect isn't anywhere near as sharp as you thought. So, will you be serving crow or humble pie for dinner tonight? ![]() |
Good luck folks - Fenty would get CREAMED as a Republican. Folks who are suggesting this, do not understand DC politics at all. |
Wow, that was one hell of a bender you were on. Sobered up yet? |
