The difference in student quality is massive. W&L is in the same league as UVA, W&M in terms of SAT. Roanoke is on par with CNU, GMU, VCU, etc.

No, I actually intentionally attended a college without a Greek system when I was 18, but thank you for demonstrating to the OP what types of people are attracted to those schools.

If money is really a factor, then I'd look long and hard at Roanoke and seeing if you can make it work. Successful people have come out of Roanoke. But W&L really is that much higher ranked and opens that many more doors so it can't be discounted either.

If he or she is interested in going into business or law or consulting afterwards, W&L hands down due to alum networking and ease of getting better internships leading to analyst roles. You must not understand how rankings work. Some colleges are ranked regionally, Roanoke isn’t because Roanoke is in the national rankings. USNWR says Roanoke is a national LAC.

Niche has Roanoke grads at 44k six years out, W&L at 76k. If you think the OCR opportunities at both colleges are equal, you're deluded.

(And I HATE W&L so I'm not saying this as a booster.)

Roanoke is a good safety school for someone considering W&L however. Reasonably similar vibes given the academic and outcome gulf between them.

Let us try to explain again. Wash & Lee is around 19 for LACS. Roanoke is 122. It's even lower for all colleges and universities -like 198. That is not good. Yes, it's technically listed in the rankings because some poor college has to be bottom 25Th percentile or lower for the ranking to make any sense. Is Roanoke "bragging" it's "nationally ranked"? If so, that's pathetic since it takes a second to see where.
