and then that would be the club's third team

SYC's ranking order:
MLS Next
MLS Next II
NAL

I don’t know much about any of this… have always been in an ECNL club. Would it be better to be in an MLS Next club even if at NAL level or stick with an ECNL-RL team? What about MLS Next II vs ECNL-RL?

SYC does not invest a lot in their second.. third... fourth team.

no club does - it's just a money grab at that point

Ya, I thought it was a branding mistake when they came out with NAL. Just another acronym. MLS II is better name recognition. Not that it really means much. Still a second team. An ECNL player has as much chance making an MLS Next squad. This way though MLS can start grabbing teams in lower divisions.

Just like GA brought DPL in to run the “2nd division”, MLS will bring in NAL. Also has the benefit of bringing NAL girl teams into DPL.

SYC used to call and advertise their second team as MLS Next II, till they got in trouble and then started calling it NAL.

The thing is that MLS can have MLS Next, MLS 2, MLS 3, MLS 4 or whatever. Eventually there will be another league to scoop all those under served players at the lower ranks. I actually thought MLS Next was a damn good idea when it came out, but keep it exclusive. Kids grow in lots of leagues in every sport. The cream rises and MLS Next or academies will always get their pick.

But isn’t MLS Next Academy really tier 1?

You, sir, have reading comprehension issues.

Yeah, I think you can assume all the MLSN clubs with 2nd teams, along with NAL and EA clubs will go MLSN I or ii

I agree with you on this. My family joined SYC last summer after our move to the area. My DS received and offer for their 2nd team with a speech about the clubs MLS II, training facility and an option to practice with higher level teams upon request.
Will, we have made request and get the run around. They only conduct 2 practices a week vice the 3 they originally promised.
Anyone have insight on Alexandria soccer club??

The kicker is is MLSN said “once accepted, you have to move your girls side over to GA”

It's MLSNext, not MLSN.
