Cold brew, black, once a day isn't a problem. Cold brew with milk and sugar and flavor syrups is, as is the "and on..." part of the equation. Have her step down to black or green tea, then go without for a bit. |

Oh No Youre 8th Grader is going to die
|
|
My kid with ADHD would drink coffee in the morning when he couldn't get his prescription filled due to shortages.
Coffee is not fundamentally harmful and one cup early in the morning seems reasonable. I'm not sure why one poster is concerned that she might add milk to it? What is wrong with milk? Afraid she might have a few extra calories? Very weird. |

I think anything addictive you should hold out as long as possible.
There no reason an 8th b grader should be drinking coffee every and “ need” it. |
| How about switching to a medication with dosage you can monitor and control, instead of it's only her veins with whatever blocks the cravings temporarily? |
| The cold brew sold in stores is often concentrated and meant to be diluted. She could be having more caffeine than intended |
Then you need to get her evaluated and see if she needs meds. |
| My 12yo sometimes drinks a latte and claims it helps him focus as well. He only has one every couple of weeks but likely would love to every morning. What is the issue with caffeine - is it harmful when still in a growth phase? What is the big issue if it’s not causing the 8th grader to have sleep issues or side effects? It does seem early but just curious what the big deal is… |
Honestly? If the coffee helps, why? Psych meds are awful; always start with the lesser intervention, when possible. |
milk alone is probably fine, but most people who dilute/doctor their coffee also use sweeteners. There's the issue. Milk alone is probably fine; negligible calorie increase, especially for an active teen. The calcium is probably a bonus. |
This made me imagine a tomogachi of an 8th grader 😂 |
Truth |
I have heard of psychologists suggesting to try coffee for ADHD before prescription meds OP this level of tiredness you are describing seems abnormal if she is getting 10 hours of sleep a night. Maybe she needs a sleep study? |
| To answer your question,...is it healthy....No. |
