Wrong. UGA and Athens seem to have a similar vibe to UVA and Charlottesville. |
+1 I'm the poster who grew up in GA, going to UGA games my whole life but went to VT. UVA and UGA have similar vibes - a mix of preppy and hipster depending on your crowd. |
Do you think the UGA vibe is more like UVA than VT? |
So here's the deal -- the type of student that goes to UGA is quite different than 10-15 years ago. UGA has obviously been a big draw for Georgia residents, especially since HOPE started in the early 90s, however, it wasn't until around 2010 until things really started to take off for UGA. Admissions has become much more competitive and it's no longer a backup school for many high ability kids in the state. It recruits top talent from Georgia's high schools and it's become very desirable for OOS kids as well. The kids still party (all college students do everywhere you go), but you're going to get a mix of all type of students at UGA. 35,000+ students tends to give you a little bit of everything! |
Yes. As said above several times. |
This is true because before the 2010s+ every student in Georgia could go for free if they had a 3.0 or higher. It was definitely a back up school for many of us who lived in Georgia, but also a place where all of our family went so a tradition to be proud of as well. It is a more diverse student population now, but the vibe of Athens is more like the vibe of Charlottesville versus Blacksburg. |
Lottery sales dropped and the GSFC had to institute test scores to ensure they had enough money for those who qualify. |
💯. My kid loved both (UVA and UGA). Very similar feels with both campus, nearby city (Athens vs C’ville), and culture. |
Is Blacksburg more provincial? |
The homeless population in Athens is a big turnoff and getting more aggressive. |
Blacksburg near campus is very much like any other VA campus... go out a few miles and its farmland. That is not the vibe on campus though, AT all. |
Have you been to DC or any city lately? It’s a problem everywhere. |
It might be the vibe for VT’s agriculture school |
Its not a typical issue at many college campuses. Kids looking at UVA and UGA are not also looking at going to school in a major city. |
