MCPS calendar extended by one day to Monday June 16

What are the camps based in schools going to do that Monday? Cancel that day and start camp on Tuesday, I guess? It's already a short week because of Juneteenth, I wonder if some will cancel the whole week ..

The easy but stupid decision. Unless someone is giving a test to my HS student, that's a big NOPE.

MCEA didn't like it.

🙄 such a tired comment. More than just teachers work during the school day genius. There’s a lot more that goes into running a school but apparently dcum still thinks America is a first world country to complain about a non-issue so there’s that. How about do something educational with your kids if you are SO worried that so much leaning is going to be missed.

If there are more snow days, they'll add Tues & Wed of that week.

Are you seriously suggesting that teachers didn't drive the selection of this over Jan. 29, March 31, and June 6?

Teachers weren't even asked so YES they are suggesting that.

You don't think they talked to MCEA? Yes, they did.

Is there a link for this calendar change and any reasoning for why this date was selected?
Anonymous
Nope, my kid won't attend.

They should have added a day back at a different time. Sometimes the instructional time is needed (for kids taking AP exams, etc) but not in June.

Absolutely not in less there are exams We have camps scheduled. MCPS's failure to plan is not my problem.

Are you the person who always brings up MCEA?

You need to understand that a teacher can go a year without even thinking about the union. We’re simply too busy doing the 50,000 things we need to get done during the day.

Teachers actually have very little voice. Heck, it’s one of the reasons people leave this profession.

This. This is what I think will happen.

Why on earth we need to have June 6 off? It’s not end of marking period

As a parent I wouldn’t have minded June 6, but I am glad not to lose Jan 29 or Mar 31. I hope MCPS revises next year’s calendar while they still can. 1-2 snow days is not realistic.

I think the single half day week is dumb, but I also think we’ll get more snow.
