Trump did not place hand on bible during swearing in ceremony

He doesn’t know what to do with a bible except sell them. Remember how he held it upright in front of St. John’s Church?

He was waiting for someone to buy his $60 Trump bible.

Melania (while wearing a large hat that obscured her face) was holding her husband's personal Bible, which was given to him by his mother, and the Lincoln Bible that President Abraham Lincoln used to take the oath of office in 1861.

What does DCUM think as to why?
Is he afraid that his presidency will go against the teachings of the Bible and does not want to face divine retribution?
Or just indifferent to his professed faith?
Or a slight towards Melania by undermining her relevance to the ceremony?

Trump is an atheist. To him, the Bible is of little importance. It's symbolic only. He's also a narcissist who was the center of attention and so he simply forgot about the Bible because it means nothing to him.

I believe that's the least bothersome thing he's ever done, OP. Congrats on identifying it!

No one cares.

Obviously it’s the symbolism that matters given how he has exploited religion for political gains.

Plenty of people care - many news outlets f on Fox, to People, to NYT to various broadcast news channels to The Hill ran stories on this omission.

Trump's many religious followers don't care that Trump himself is not religious at all.

Yeah, it’s it like he wore a tan suit or something!

He didn't put his hand on his heart during the Pledge of Alligiwnce at Carter's funeral. He's above the law, religion, you name it. He's Henry VIII.

I'm guessing that OP is a Christian Non-Trump Supporter looking for another way to show what a horrible person Trump is. As other posters have said -- many of Trump's supporters don't care that he's an atheist. Many of them are Christian too.

“Me and my money” is his religion

Because Satan can’t touch bibles without feeling physical pain.

Forgot!!! What a joke. Ignore maybe. Forgot not likely.

Faithful Christians and atheists both agree that a Bible has no place at an inaugural affirmation.

Only demagogues use Bibles in government.

I had to read 3 different responses to get to this one?

Putting your hand on the bible is just a formality. It doesn't stop people from abusing power, religion, or being a charlatan.

Nice try

This moment creates a photo op which has been one of the identifying pictures of the American presidency across the years.

I can believe a bunch of things about why Trump didn't touch the Bible, but it's not just a formality. But hey nine of his supporters care, so.... so what?

It's less than a formality; it's totally meaningless at best, and blasphemous at worst. It's a personal private choice, like what lapel pin to wear, that has nothing to do with the function of government.

He gives atheists like me a bad name.
