Anecdotally seems like applications are up this year across schools

The rich are getting richer. There is a lot of money in the DMV.

I also think there are more kids that left public at younger ages that are now graduating out of K-8 schools. Even though they left public years ago - they are still an application. Numbers are also affected if fewer kids graduating from k-8 return to public.

Plus - with highly competitive schools getting more competitive, families need to apply to places like Bullis as a solid option if they don't want to use public as their fallback.

Translation: People with means to escape from the woke failing public schools in the DMV are doing so.

Covid forced families from public to private and these families aren’t really going back to public. I agree with PP that K-8 families are staying in private. But this is purely anecdotal.

So many people are bailing that total enrollment is the highest it’s been since pre-COVID.

Populations fluctuate. More friends/family/classmates are moving to private than I have ever seen before in the last 15 years. Is it anecdotal, sure. But it's noticeable, at least to me.

Perhaps your bubble is not reality?

lol. I mean, it's my reality. Just because you don't seem to want to even consider the fact that it might be true that people are trending toward private doesn't make it less likely. I know people applying to private who swore for the last 5 plus years they would stay public.

Yes, I think this true based on several families I know. I think some intended to go back to public but after a positive experience with private and alot of chaos/uncertainty in the publics, they are continuing on to other privates.

Anyone else hear anything from their school/other schools about whether application numbers are up? Would have thought now that publics are mostly recovered from COVID messes that numbers would be down but guess not...

Did Holton share that their admissions are up 60%? That's a big number!

Sure but not sure how that explains increase in applications now...

I'm confused. There are so many threads on here complaining about the woke private schools. Are you saying people are apply to woke private schools because public schools are woke?

I don't think FCPS redistricting has much to do with it, though anecdotally I see a few "don't redistrict our school" signs while driving around somewhat in our area of Fairfax County. I think it's perceived education quality. Or at least that's what I'm hearing from friends.

Our school sounds similar but we are not in Fairfax County. We are traditionally a backup/safety school so high applicant volume doesn’t necessarily translate to higher yield, but definitely indicates that families are casting a wider net than usual. I’ve volunteered for admissions events for 9 years and these are the highest numbers we’ve seen since 2017.

Catholic schools are not woke.

Could just be that families are applying to many more schools per student than before…

People are bailing on MCPS. Not just white people…all people.

GC and SJC open houses and other events were packed with tons of families from my area mcps middle school. This wasn’t the case 8 years ago when just a few kids from the same middle school applied to catholic high schools.

I’m very worried that my kid won’t get in. My Plan B is to invest in tutors focused on challenging my kid if we are forced to stick with mcps.

The stock market has been turbo charged. Lots more people perceive private to be affordable now.
