egg prices are out of control..local govt needs to reduce urban chicken coop restrictions

More crime will be egg prices down too!

It’s true, we should have light chicken density instead of putting them all in one place. If all of your neighbors had a few chickens it would be a lot better than keeping them on a farm with the economies of scale, specialty equipment, feed storage, and transportation. I’m sure that they will just ride the bus.

Absolutely no relation, OP, but I do want my own hen coop in my backyard. Currently not allowed due to the narrow shape of my lot. I don't have the necessary setbacks from the property line.

Even in Florida the restrictions are out of control. We actually have chickens and wanted to sell eggs to our neighbors to recoup some feed costs (organic feed is very expensive) but we’d need to pay for a freaking license. Otherwise we can be sued! And this is a very clean homestead property making very healthy eggs (chickens have tons of space, grass etc). Ridiculous. So no thanks, we just feed any extra eggs back to our chickens instead!

Can you gift them and ask for "donation for feed cost."

I get pasture raised eggs at Trader Joe’s for $6.
That’s 50c an egg. So a 2 egg omelette with some veggies and some shredded cheese is about $3. That’s pretty cheap considering the nutrition it’s giving you.
Eggs are not expensive.

OP must be shopping for gold-plated ostrich eggs at Tiffany's or something.

It's a bird flu problem. If you want an infected flock in your neighbors back yard, to start infecting humans more often, then go for it OP.

Look into egg substitutes to use temporarily, if you can't afford these eggs.

Yes, this person is going to start the next global pandemic because they are upset about the price of free range organic eggs.

I would like to buy $10.99 eggs, because I have money to burn.

BS, there are no egg shortages (except when there's snow in the forecast, then we are also out of bread and milk!). OP is a troll and you all fell for it

South Mountain Creamery is $5.50 per dozen for extra large eggs. They deliver.

I find jumbo eggs for $3-4 all the time and that is no shortage. Perhaps shop smarter instead of making dumb suggestions to solve problems that do not exist.

Even at the farmers market they are only $6.

I think it's funny someone thinks the solution to egg prices is to spend thousands of dollars building a coop in their back yard.

And I say this as someone whose grandma had a farm. Have you ever actually cleaned chicken waste? It stinks. Chickens get health issues and need vet care like anyone else. Sometimes they get stuck eggs and you have to help them. Some chickens are jerks and will try to scratch you a lot. And lots of different things can kill them.

We have tons of foxes around here, so you better build that coop very securely.

Chickens aren't free eggs machines.

A dozen organic extra large free range eggs are under 5.99 at Moms market. Where on earth do you shop?

Just paid $1.99/dozen at Harris Teeter. Plenty in stock. You do need a loyalty card.
