| Shocked to see 10.99 eggs at the store. Even the cheap ones are now pushing $5 per carton, and that's ONLY when they're in stock. It's either constant shortages or massive prices. Why haven't over burdensome regulations preventing urban livestock been repealed yet? Counties make it far too difficult for people to grow their own food, like eggs. All you need are a few hens that produce tons of eggs, and they're far healthier than the store crap anyway. It is time local governments rewrite the laws to allow homeowners and apartments to have urban chicken coops. |
|
did you know that removing all zoning laws will bring egg and gas prices down?
More crime will be egg prices down too! |
| ...there are no egg shortages, where on earth are you shopping? |
Where are you seeing this? Or when? (It's January 2025, here in suburban Maryland.) I am paying $7/dozen for high-priced eggs at a high-priced grocery store, and there is never any shortage of eggs. |
| This is absurd. Chicken coops are a legitimate nuisance to neighbors, especially when lots are small. They create noise, very unpleasant smells and can threaten public health with communicable diseases. Move to an area with agricultural zoning if you want to have a chicken farm. |
They also result in rats and mice |
| I don't mind chicken coops, some people have them in my MoCo neighborhood, but I also have no idea how you're paying $11 for eggs. That's nearly double what I pay at Giant. |
NP. I’m not in DC but yesterday when I went shopping, I went to four supermarkets looking for eggs and none had any. |
Well, sounds like your local egg farms have bird flu. |
Dogs too, of course. I support the legality of backyard chickens, and also the OP's post is bananas. |
| I get farm delivery and a dozen eggs is five or six dollars, depending on egg size. |
|
This is a bird flu issue. I don't want backyard chickens now because of the bird flu risk, even tho I would otherwise support backyard chickens. (I've also taken down my bird feeder and bird bath.)
If you want cheaper eggs, the government needs to support bird flu vaccine efforts. We have poultry vaccine but don't use it. |
Well if you want organic free range pasture eggs it is 10.99. The bird flu is ripping through the factory cage raise bird. So those price will continue to rise if you can find the eggs. This is Trump and republicans fault. No vaccines allowed for chickens. |
| I think I paid less than $3.50 for a dozen over the weekend. Maybe you should shop around more? |
Never do grocery shopping on a Sunday. Too many weekend shoppers and not much (if any) restocking happens. Monday is better (but not morning -- still not enough time to restock). Tuesday through Friday are generally OK. |
