Women’s College Dilemma

MHC is supposed to be the most supportive, so your daughter may be on to something.

I think that school is excellent:academically, philosophically, the location. We liked that you can study during the week but head to Amherst in weekends/when you want to socialize. Don’t worry, the students there take work plenty seriously. The seven sisters alumni network is very strong. And MHC buiids leaders.

Almost all colleges now have large groups of international students. It's about full pay seats first and foremost. It's a business after all.

I am the mom of a Smith alumna. I was on the parent Facebook group for the years my kid was at Smith. There were several families there that had o e kid at Smith and the other at Agnes Scott. That school hs a loyal following. It was not one my student looked at, but if you had asked her junior year, she would have said she was going to MHC. She got into several women’s colleges (including MHC where she thought she wanted to go) and went online to engage with the students on all. She felt most at home with the Smithies. I would encourage your daughter to look at several and try to engage with students at to see where she is most comfortable. Maybe revisit if you have time.

AS or MHC would be a good choice (of course I think she should pick Smith). Sorry if you said, but what does she want to study? They all have different strengths.

I went to Mount Holyoke and loved it. Went to an Ivy for graduate school and have had a great network and career. I took classes at Smith and Amherst as part of the 5-college consortium and didn’t like them as much.

I found the 2023 financial report. it looks okay to my untrained eyes. What should I look at in it to understand where the issues lie?

MTH’s endowment is less than half of those of Smith and Wellesley, including per student. It funds a much smaller share of the operating budget.

Happy parent of a Smithie. It’s been a very good choice for our daughter and she is thriving there.
