Travel costs and family

I oh would be really depressed having to work so hard on my holiday camping, cooking, sleeping in a tent! The beaches are great but the nice ones will still be $$. We typically do Wildwood and the NJ Ocean City v VA Beach/MD and I'm not sure how many visits you can keep doing to Philly, Pitt, etc.

If it was me I'd do NYC more as staying in a hostel is not as $! And at least there's more to offer there. I'd look at going to TN or 8 hr drives that way.

I'd do more stay at home holidays but line up activities incl multiple escape rooms, Beat the Bomb, F1 and 5wits or something. A zillion movie nights, ice skating, rock climbing, bowling, etc.

To me, driving 10+ hours and going to a national park every holiday would be too much. And the national parks I love are mostly out west unfortunately.

Or save up and go on a nice holiday every 3-4 years.

Yes - travel is so much more $$$ now. We used to do $1000/night luxe rooms at famous locations which are now like $2k+ and that's just completely a deal killer. I don't think we'll go back to the islands ever again but maybe look at places like Belize or Costa Rica. Nicaragua or Dominica.

Spring is a crazy time at work for me so we are usually limited to 3-4 day trips and try to pick a place within driving distance--Ocean City, Va Beach, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, South Carolina, New York. Last year, I put our travel dates into Google flights and picked the least expensive option--Louisville, KY. It was fun. We look at spring break as a time to try something totally random and off the wall, even if its not luxurious and warm.

Basically places you can drive to

I banned VA Beach from my destinations. Why? People smoke pot all along the beach and the boardwalk. If you care about your kids and yourself, avoid these places.

+1
Pot smoking is so disgusting and is so prolific these days. Can we please make this illegal again?

Depending where you stay in Florida. You can find decent rates and have a relaxing stay near the ocean. You will need to drive aprox 15-30 min to a good beach.
