I can’t tell if my 15 yo is trying to talk the way I talk or simply making fun of me.

Sorry OP but I agree.

Weird.

But disrespect is not good- I’d talk with DD about it and tell her how disrespectful you find this- and tell her to stop.

Who is being unkind here? The OP is unkind for inflicting their pick-me vocalizations on the world?

The gravity! It's a problem entirely of your own creation.

Your daughter is just defying gravity! She through playing by the rules of someone else's game. And you can't pull her down!

Everything is a choice.

I use a lot of sayings like “let’s blow this popsicle stand” and “you’re barking up the wrong tree”. I understand that even though these sayings are clever and fun, they’re not really popular with kids these days. That’s why I was so surprised when DD (15 y/o) began to use these kind of phrases. At first it was just in casual family conversation and I felt so honored, like she was paying tribute to me. But then I heard her using it with her friends, and when she did that, she was doing a silly voice and they were laughing. So what do you folks think is going on? Should I feel honored … or hurt?

You think you are pretty cool but your feel almost certainly doesn’t. Don’t be honored or hurt, just be yourself. Your teen will dislike you for a while and then come back in a few years, they all do.

Everything is a choice.

As someone who learned English from TV I use slang a lot and it’s rude to not think of issues like that.

Teens have their own language now - common verbs are now adhectives (drip, fire, etc) , nonsensical phrases (pov, loki), and questions are never directly answered ("what's good?"..."yea" ).

I seriously doubt your teen is imitating his 40+ yr old mom especially with your ancient phrases/metaphors.

why is everyone assuming teen is a jerk? OP doesn't say anything else other than how she talks?

take away the phone/priveleges? is everyone 80 on here?

why are we assuming the worst?

could just have a good relationship, even if joking in good fun, but not even sure if that is the case?

Agree with all of this.

These are good problems. She thinks you are silly, and you think you are silly. She likes you.

Ooh, I doff my cap again, milady!

Are you calling OP old or something?

+1. Not cool.

I think it's probably a mix of slightly making fun of and also saying them without realizing it. My parents had a few weird phrases and I adopted them. It wasn't until I was in college and a friend said something about one of them that I realized I was even saying them.

Did a chatbot write this OP?

Sounds like your kid is making fun of you. You use expressions she doesn’t, some of which are outdated and others are just ones young people don’t speak. If I were you, I would tell her to walk a mile in your shoes and think about how it feels to hear her imitating you. Tell her that while imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, in this case you are not feeling flattered.
