Hershey is fun for a few days. Hershey Lodge has a pool, you can do the chocolate tour, park, zoo, museum, etc. |
We were so terribly bored in Williamsburg. Even last year it was dead and not too many things open. Nothing to do at night but eat. |
We did Williamsburg with my parents in their 80s. The tree is some walking but it’s not a ton and it’s pretty flat and there are lots of places to sit and rest. I think we alsp left them sitting on a bench or at one of the demonstrations while we walked around a bit more. We took a horse drawn carriage ride and had a nice sit down lunch at one of the historic taverns (highly recommend a reservation). We stayed someplace with an indoor pool so also just spent some time there. I haven’t done it but you could also drive down to Jamestown which I have heard is very cool and I think less walking. If your parents can tolerate it, you can also add on a night at great wolf lodge — there’s lots of places to just sit with a drink while the kids run around, provided they aren’t bothered by general loud ambient noise.
Another idea might be Baltimore — aquarium, science museum, tall ships, zoo, train museum are all cool and you can combine with some nice meals. |
Oh this is a good idea. I love the museum about the history of the company — it’s so interesting! We combined with a stop in Gettsburg. The battlefield tour is a driving tour and there is a good app designed for kids with an audio tour. We also did a tour of a historical house on the Main Street that was taken over by I think confederate soldiers during the battle — I liked that a lot. You could also add in Amish country too — there are some stops there that are interesting. |
PP who frequents Williamsburg. When we say “Williamsburg” we include Jamestown and Yorktown. Both have fantastic museums and interactive outdoor areas. They have great memberships for Virginia residents.
Downtown Yorktown on the water is very cute. Just Williamsburg alone isn’t enough, but Jamestown and Yorktown are good fun! |
Lancaster could be nice |
Agree. Philadelphia and Richmond are perfect. |
This. We also had amazing time at the mariner museum. |
Good to know. For OP, I was referring to these museums which are much closer: https://www.jyfmuseums.org/visit/tickets/virginia-residents-american-heritage-annual-pass?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAj9m7BhD1ARIsANsIIvBR9ZKS-Qc6h19T46g2rc58w7a2bM7U-Oga6Njk7bnEYqb9CJ5ykBsaAoAHEALw_wcB |
The homestead is a good idea but it is a long drive. |
This. We went a few years ago. My mom got one at Yorktown and Jamestown. Not sure about Williamsburg. If you do go, book a carriage tour like now. |

I like Williamsburg, but I saw him with a mild mobility challenge. It isn’t the easiest due to all of the bricks and a lot of steep staircase is going in and out of the buildings. I also think it gets so crowded during spring break that there might not be as many benches available to sit in. Kirsi is a really good choice. Your kids are at a great age for it and it’s pretty small. If you stay at the hotels, you get free tickets to Hershey Gardens and maybe some other things and they have a cool butterfly enclosure. |
Not Kirsi- Hershey |
Also Pittsburgh |
