D.C. is the second gayest city after San Francisco. It sounds like you are too inexperienced and apprehensive for Grindr and need to build a gay social life.

FWIW, I knew a gay guy who married a woman in the 1960's, had kids, and predictably got divorced around age 30. A few years later he met his husband in the musical theatre. Some stereotypes are true. If you immerse yourself in gay organizations then you will find a lot more role models for meeting people.
