| DC is hoping to get into a VA Governors school program. Whether that pans out or not, will do part time work and volunteering and work on essays. |

DP. They have been saying the same thing since I joined DCUM in 2014. Just ignore them, or report them, they don't listen to reason (unsurprisingly). |
| my kid took NOVA community college courses in hard sciences to prove he could perform well at the college level. It worked; got in to all but two Ivies |
Yes |
| If SAT/ACT testing is complete, start working on essays and narrowing down schools that they are interested in. Schedule and tour schools. |
This! This is almost verbatim what our DC did. 5 days a week, 4 hours a day, at 3 different medical systems. Great experience and great for resume building. Also got the common app populated, personal statement drafted, and outlines for essays completed. Rocked and rolled while all the friends were stressing about it after senior year started. |
Were any ivy admits given? |
+1. They’re this age only once, let them have some fun and not everything be aimed at “what’s right for college”. |
Mine is mostly interested in video games. But he has to get a job this summer. I don't know if it's the best for college applications, but it will be an essential part of getting ready for life. |
Incredible! Which courses did he take? Did these courses fit into an overall story with his transcript and future college major? |
He should try to get a job related to his interest in video games. Maybe a comic book store, graphics shop. He can get a supplemental essay out of it. |
| Is there a list of summer programs that’s easy to filter? You’d think some counselor would be curating and sharing this |
| I wish they tryout for the Governor School camp. |
What type of counselor would want this widely shared? Not a HS counselor at Public or private, not a paid counselor…which ones? |
