Homework in AAP

There is no data indicating benefits to most homework before middle school. If you’re concerned about what your kids are leaning, the curriculum is available to you.

It’s so weird to me that other parents seem to think homework is for their benefit. By upper elementary, their teachers will be using Schoology anyhow.

I have no problem telling if my child is struggling with something in class. Almost all of their work is sent home on a weekly basis and there is a study guide for all unit tests. When they bring their weekly work home we just review any subjects that they struggled with.

That is so nice the school/ teacher does that. What school /pyramid is that?

Another question, does anyone know if the school/ teacher can adjust the based program and just do less of if in lower rated ES compared to higher rated ES?

It depends on the teacher. My current sophomore had no homework till 5th, when he had more than he has ever had. He had some in 6th. Then pretty much none until this year in 10th! 7th-9th he got everything done in school, which makes it obvious how much learning they are leaving on the table. Also, it is REALLY hard to start taking AP classes when you haven't built up the homework skills. This kid made the adjustment ok but his younger sibling is going to struggle. Younger sibling in middle school and has less homework, than in elementary. Eye roll.

There is no good data either way about homework, if we are honest. Lack of data does not prove or disprove anything.
