Do AAP kids get homework? I HATE THE NO HOMEWORK policy our fcps school follows. I’m unable to know of help my child if she is struggling with anything. By the time we get work home, that unit is over. How to teachers know if the kids have mastered the material? |
In our ES they did. Not a lot in 3rd or 4th, but really ramped up in 5th and 6th. |
It depends on the school. Mine had a lot in 3rd grade AAP. Nothing in 4th and 5th. |
Yes our school does! |
My kid is in 3rd grade and they have math homework each night. |
Yes, my 3rd grader has homework. |
Totally agree, without homework it is hard to know what the child does at the specific week at school and it is so hard to help if the child need extra help with any subjects. Can anyone know if the program can be found anywhere on-line or maybe there is a program book? Thank you! |
4th grader has none. But does have occasional study guides that are used for test prep but are not turned in for homework, so thats how i know what he is working on. Like 1 sheet every 2 weeks. |
It depends. DS had minimal HW throughout elementary — maybe 5-15 max 2x week — until MS this year, but he was super efficient with his free class time and finished any homework then. He had friends who struggled a bit more and had hours of homework, especially in 6th. DD is in 4th and has about 0-5 min a week but other friends’ parents complain of hours of homework. I’m a little unclear why that’s happening. I’d say it depends on your kid and your school. |
3rd grader at AAP center — no homework except occasional studying
Teacher specifically said she doesn’t want work done at home because parents would do it. I am fine with it. Not a lot of time in the day. I would rather my kid read for pleasure for an hour than spend that time doing homework. |
You can find the grade level curriculum at FCPS's website. It breaks it down by quarter, not week, but it should give you a decent sense of what's happening when. The link below is for 3rd grade AAP math, as an example. https://www.fcps.edu/academics/elementary/third-grade/year-at-a-glance/advanced-math |
My child is in 3rd grade at a center. He brings home 3-4 pages double sided of math homework on Monday, due Friday. The kids can.choose if they want to do it all in one go or one page per night. |
I teach AAP. My kids usually have math from M-Thur. They have a once a week LA sheet. They sometimes have to finish work not completed in school. Does your teacher send a weekly email with what they did each week? I send one out every week. If a kid is really struggling with a specific concept, I contact parents. |
My DC does not have homework. In fact, reading at home for 30 mins is optional. I'm wondering when homework will be normalized. As previous posters have said, it would be nice to know what the students are working on. I am also hoping that the teacher will reach out if DC is struggling in certain content areas. |
My third grade AAP student have very limited homework that usually includes review for the unit tests and that is about it.
I have no problem telling if my child is struggling with something in class. Almost all of their work is sent home on a weekly basis and there is a study guide for all unit tests. When they bring their weekly work home we just review any subjects that they struggled with. |
