Average amount of homework in middle school?

I've been hearing this since elementary. I was told that teachers can assign homework for reinforcement but the scores don't count towards their grade. Unless they are finishing up a classwork assignment at home, so not really homework. Is that not true? My 6th grader usually has 20 minutes max of homework and only in math, spanish and sometimes science.

Yes, if you define homework as "not the homework the kid is doing", then the kid has no homework. Well done!

Our seventh grader has the occasional out of school project or larger assignment, but overall, we're glad for minimal homework.
